On this day in 1999, Robert Clothier died. During WW2, he joined the RCAF & earned the Distinguished Flying Cross. In a plane crash in 1944, he was the only survivor. He was unable to walk for 2 years due to injuries. He is best known to Canadians as Relic on The Beachcombers.

Nerene Virgin has died. Born in 1946, she was a journalist, educator, television host and author. From 1981 to 1987, she portrayed Jodie on Today's Special. She used her writing skills to research, write and present the stories of Black Canadians. She died on Jan. 15, 2024.

The best licence plate design in the world is the Northwest Territories licence plate design (in my opinion at least). The unique plate was created to celebrate the centennial of the NWT in 1970. The plate design is now a registered trademark of the NWT government.

How each province and territory got its name: British Columbia: Originally, the southern portion of the province was named for the Columbia River. The central region was named New Caledonia. To avoid confusion with Colombia, Queen Victoria named it British Columbia in 1858.
