Appalachians are mocked and made fun of so badly that we’re taught to be ashamed of ourselves. Not doing that anymore, so here’s me playing banjo, of which I’ve been embarrassed too long.
Release day!
My first book as editor, DEATH'S OTHER KINGDOM: HORROR TALES OF WORLD WAR I, is out! Link below. Thank you so much to all who have supported this project. And thanks to everyone who submitted stories. Truly grateful.
Just read a batshit story: The Monster of Lake LaMetrie (1899) by Wardon Allan Curtis. A man finds a dinosaur, cuts off the top of its skull, puts his dead friend's brain in skull. Dino lives, speaks, sings Gregorian chants. Murders. Gets the shit shot out of it by the army 🤣
RELEASE DAY!

Taking a leap and starting a small press of horror & crime called The Scythian Wolf. I'm going to publish two of my story collections first, but I want to learn and grow. One day I hope to take on books by other authors. Logo is from a 1658 bestiary! Follow

A graphic passage in The Promise of Plague Wolves. I truly hope this horror novel finds an audience. I’m proud of it.
In this scene, Grau, Toader, and the Lieutenant take a man dying from smallpox, left alone.
I set up this little desk in a window nook upstairs. It’s where I write each morning. Been nice to separate creative work from the day job in the home office downstairs. Mentally, I don’t want this novel to touch that space.
Vague but I can now say my crime novel The Switchblade Svengali has a publisher!
Hypnotism, a UFO cult, spiraling mental illness, and murder in 1968 Arizona.
Here it is! The cover of A PANTHEON OF THIEVES AND OTHER WEIRD TALES!
Eight stories of strange divinities and beautiful horrors. Find Obsession. Find Madness. Find Worship.

For the past 20 years, I’ve read two Philip K Dick novels per year, pacing myself so his oeuvre would last. Sadly, I have read all the novels and short stories. Caused physical pain to finish the final one this year. Feel a little lost.
Open Call—WWI Horror—begins Aug 1
I’ve hired 2 people to read the 1st round of submissions. I gave 3 criteria that a story must meet to be passed to me. I will read and select from the 2nd round. Names will be redacted from the stories to prevent me from selecting only friends.
With
@TheScythianWolf
, I'm creating historical horror anthologies I want to read. I want writers to explore dark corners of history that are often ignored in favor of the well-worn paths. I hope you'll follow the press and join me. Details about the first open call soon!

My dream is to create an audio drama series. This would be an anthology series, a different story each episode—horror and macabre mysteries. A ghastly host would preside over the proceedings.

Title page of my latest. I wanted to write this novel to put in all the weird and strange details I’ve gathered over a decade of studying and teaching occult history. The language, the books, the rituals—all drawn from the past.
Colossus with a Poison Tongue releases July 1.
Absolutely huge short story acceptance today! Have to keep it vague for now, but this is historical horror in an era I love. I’ll share details when I can!
John Wayne criticized High Plains Drifter (1973), saying ‘That isn’t what the West was all about. That isn’t the American people who settled this country.’
Misanthropy is in the heart of the gothic western because it’s in the heart of history
