I still can't believe this happened. Jaw dropping stuff yesterday, May 15th, just east of Hallville, Ontario at around 8:45pm. Just absolutely insane. Easily the best shelf I've ever seen in Eastern Ontario. And this happened in May!

Absolutely WILD video of the Derecho last Saturday, May 21st, in a forest in the Hawkesbury area.
This video was posted by Tyson Peers on Tik Tok and posted on Reddit as well. It's a must watch! (btw, lots of swearing but understandably so)

Today was crazy good. First chase day in Alberta in my life. Saw a lot of amazing structure. Took 67 pictures, all topped off with this:
The best picture I've ever taken in my life. Never Stop Chasing.

Here's my favourite photos from today's storm. One of my favourite Eastern Ontario storms of ALL time! An incredible day in many ways, and one that I won't soon forget. It really doesn't get much better than this here!

I'm so serious when I say this:
If you have any kind of breathing problem like asthma, or anything else that hinders proper breathing, STAY HOME this morning. The smoke is so unbelievabley bad. Smell is strong as well.
This is without a doubt the worst I've ever seen.

Everyone we've talked too inside Findlay Creek are okay. We talked to both home owners with damages and they're both in good spirits all things considered.
That concludes
@PhotographicMH
and I's day. Our first tornado, but unfortunately it caused damage.

Merivale Road at Colonnade Road is completely flooded under the bridge. Waist deep is what the police said. They pulled 5 submerged vehicles out of the water.

Here's my photos of that crazy supercell yesterday. First two are from Dunrobin as it tapped into a better environment after Arnprior, third one is near Finch after I finally caught up to it, and the fourth one is from the 2nd tor warned storm after it died.

Video of the tornado on Albion Road last night as it was beginning to touch down. It tore down a power line on the way through before becoming fully condensed shortly after Albion into Findlay Creek. Video from Derek-Pierre Levasseur (shared with permission).

It is admittedly kind of funny that I drove to Alberta for 2 weeks in 2021, 2022, and 2023 in search of seeing my first tornado, and then I ended up seeing my first tornado 20 minutes up the road from my own house in Ontario lol
I don't think I ever posted this lightning bolt shot from the Ottawa Tornado warned storm on August 17th on here, so I'm sharing it now. Incredible. 😍

Damage at a construction site inside Findlay Creek off of Salamander Way. Trailer completely flipped and dragged a little bit. As always, the portapotty was pulled down too.

HOLY CRAP, they all said yes!!!
Leaving tonight with
@twstdbro
. My first ever hurricane chase and it might be the strongest storm ever to come into Canada. I'm ecstatic! Let's go!
About to pop the question to my bosses at work if I can take Friday, the weekend, and Monday off to go chase Hurricane Fiona with
@twstdbro
. Wish me luck folks
These photos speak for themselves. Un-freaking-real, man. The absolute LAST thing I was expecting on an emergency chase activation. Never, EVER, stop chasing!
All of these photos are around the Alexandria area this evening.

Hamlet Road (just off of Smyth) is quite bad... knee high water vehicles struggling further down. Water going up driveways to the houses.

Just caught either a massive fireball or the comet on my dashcam outside of Greely, ON on John Quinn road!! Crazy cool, never seen anything like that before!

Pleased to announce that I've accepted a position with the
@DundasNorth
to be their weather columnist.
You'll be able to read my columns bi-weekly in the newspaper, starting with their next issue on January 26th.
Some more photos. This was the backside of a different storm a few kilometers away from the supercell. This was near Mallorytown, Ontario. And holy smokes, was this ever gorgeous. Might've been my favourite part of the whole day, honestly.

This is the most textbook supercell on radar that I've ever seen go right through Ottawa, with the couplet going right through the city.
The only problem is that ECCC left this unwarned until after it left the city, which is quite frankly pathetic.
I know I give them crap a lot of times, but just wanted to say that
@ECCCWeatherON
did well today & stayed on the ball with warnings. From the initial tornado watch to severe thunderstorm warnings & eventual tornado warnings, they did what they're supposed to do, & did it well.
Yesterday's supercell cycled a ton of times. Thought a few times that it was done, but it just ramped right back up. Here's all 3 spots where it really tried to produce.
First near Kinburn, then over Dunrobin (thankfully that didn't happen), & then Merivale

Today would have been a fantastic and utterly perfect time to use a Flash Flood Warning that goes on alerts on phones. But for some stupid reason, Environment Canada doesn't have those. Needs to be fixed imo.
Here's some more photos from the ridiculousness yesterday. Still gawking over that storm and will be for quite some time. Yesterday might've been my best chase ever in my 9 years of chasing.

Here's some pictures of the ground scrapping shelf cloud from just outside the town of Harrison's Corners, ON.
I *finally* got the "shelf behind the barn" picture I've been trying to get all summer. It's the first I've ever gotten!

Huge amount of runoff from this cliff side right on Lower Quarry Road beside the Trans Canada Highway at the Canso Causeway. This road going into the Quarry will be completely flooded within the next hour.

Gonna put like 15,000km on my car during this summers Storm Chasing season.
I'm heading to the Canadian prairies this summer in an attempt to see my first tornado, in honour of the late
@brianpfraser
. He wanted me to do this, so I am.
I'll see all you other chasers out there!
This was too good not to post! Tonights sunset at the gas station in Winchester, with some super cool & colourful gravity waves in it as well.
Super good mood changer, much needed!

What's your single favourite storm photo that you took during the 2023 chasing season?
I don't think I'll ever get over the scene of this tornado warned storm near Vankleek Hill on July 13th. Not just my favourite of 2023, it might be my favourite of all-time.
Hail and rain core driving south on Ramsayville to escape rain wrapped tornado. Unknown if it's still on the ground but I'm going back to check for damage on Albion around Findlay Creek.

We stayed waiting for storms longer than everyone else yesterday but even we thought "its a bust". We drove to the mountains west of Claresholm for fun, looked at radar, turned around & then punched the core
No one thought this crazy supercell would be on the other side

Crazy shelf for May. Here it is coming into Kemptville. This is where it was most beautiful, and I kind of regret sitting and waiting for it in Kemptville rather than driving towards it originally.
But, a May groundscraper is always welcomed. More photos this evening!

Well, here it is.
I've decided that this will be the front cover of my 2024 Calendars. My most popular photo of the 2023 chase season, it only seems fitting!
If you know anyone at the Boots and Hearts festival near Barrie, I'd tell them to get out of the event grounds and out of the way of this storm completely. Very dangerous tornado warned storm is heading straight at the event grounds.
