At just 12 days old, our little Rhino calf has taken her first steps outside! 🦏 After following Mum, Astrid, she explored her new surroundings and discovered that she could run even further!
We are pleased to hear from yesterday’s announcement that UK Zoo’s will be able to re-open from the 15th June. We are happy to share that we intend to re-open next week and we will update you with further information on the exact date and how you can book soon!

Colchester Zoo is excited to announce the arrival of two red panda cubs born on the 18th June! Mum, Liwei is being very attentive to the cubs giving them all the care they require to grow and develop into healthy young pandas. Read more about them here >
We're excited to announce that on the 9th Sept a pair of critically endangered Amur leopard cubs were born!
This is the first time we have bred leopards & keepers will be monitoring the cubs closely but so far Esra is being very attentive! 🐆💛

We are excited to announce that White rhino Astrid has given birth to a healthy male calf on the 14th October!

On the 9th of May, Pygmy hippopotamus Venus gave birth to a healthy female calf!😍

Here at Colchester Zoo, we are home to two Binturongs, Teddy and Cecilka. Did you know Binturongs mark their territory by leaving a musky substance that smells like popcorn! 🍿

Our tiny Tamandua is continuing to grow healthy and strong! This is the third successful offspring for mum, Ruth and Dad, Oreo, so they are very experienced in teaching the life of a Southern tamandua. 🖤🤍
Our chimp family are missing the chance to people watch and so the team took Gomez the armadillo to pay them a visit! Gomez enjoyed somewhere new to explore and our chimps enjoyed the chance to see something different!

On 25th August 2021 Colchester Zoo were very sad to say goodbye to male Amur Tiger Igor after 15 years with us here at the zoo.

Did you know... Tamanduas have four clawed digits on the forefeet and five on the hindfeet. To avoid puncturing their palms with their sharp claws, they walk on the outsides of their hands!
