Last 1 for COACHES! 10) Be better teachers. It’s truly heartbreaking to see kids wilt because you decided to yell and cuss instead of TEACH. We can’t get accurate evals. I.e. “WTFFFFF MAKE YOUR LAYUP” vs “Hey, Jaz. Go off of two feet the next time” You’re better than that. 😘

2) Finding the “1 More” Pass or Early Pitch. Over-penetrating into the paint leads to turnovers. If there are 4 people guarding you, someone is open. Pass the ball. Simple as that.

1) 2 Foot Finishes! 👣 Whenever your shot can be blocked or bothered, go off of two feet. 2 feet allow you to power up with verticality and balance. Your 1 foot layup that clangs off the backboard leads to runout layups. 😘

3) Being VOCAL. Floor presence is a thing. Your voice makes you 10x’s bigger. Say what you’re doing, where you’re going, and call names.

4) Close-out Reads. Get your eyes to the rim and assume everything is a shot until it’s not. Long close-outs = drive. Short close-outs = SHOT. If you can’t shoot it or drive it, MOVE IT. We would prefer any of those 3 options instead of a travel call. Plz and thank you. -Mgmt

8) Being a CONNECTOR. Connectors get scholly’s too! Improve your passing!!!! Be the kid that strings one side of offense to the next. Exposure events sometimes expose y’all bc you’re doing too much. It’s not always about getting yours, boo.

9) Be even-keeled (steady). There are hundreds of possessions in a single basketball game. Mistakes are inevitable.Your mistake response is everything. Continue to play hard and get hype for your teammates despite your mistakes.

6) On-ball Defense and Defending Screens. Some of y’all can’t guard your shadow. Stay in front of the ball. Work on defending on-ball screens AND off-ball screens (pin downs/flares/money + elevator screens). Stop getting screened.

7) Handling Pressure. vs ball pressure or a press. If a team decides to press full or 3/4 court, you should be licking your chops. Work on your handle. Show poise and confidence. Dawgs will FEAST on timid ball-handlers 365 days out of the year.

5) Ball Screen Reads. Ball screens are the toughest action to guard in the game of basketball. If you can make consistently good ball screen reads, you’re playing at a relatively high level.

AAU Coaches: Watch more college basketball. Get a feel for different leagues + styles. That way, when asked about kids, you recommend the kids that make sense for THAT team! Not just the top 5 kids on your roster. ESPN+ is only $5.99/month, and I know y’all got $5.99. 🌚

Whenever you are teaching shooting/shot mechanics, you should also be teaching shot SELECTION. Most missed shots are rarely a form breakdown. It was just a terrible time to shoot. 🤡 The team/player that takes the best shots will average higher %’s. 🤷🏼‍♀️

For the last 4 yrs, moving cities/states every 3-6 months was the norm. Now that I’m finally settled in my own space at Davidson, it’s nice to be reminded of the power of stability & routine. I feel grateful & centered! It’s nice not living out of a carry-on anymore. 🤗

My pops came up for game day, and he’s got me feeling like a million bucks. 🥹 The way he’s the proudest man ever to be my dad is the cutest. He goes around showing my photo to strangers talking about, “This is my daughter”. I MEAN!! 🥰

1) Ball Screen Reads: Vandersloot does a great job of being urgent without hurrying. Get your eyes to the rim at the point of the screen. If you can see the rim, you can see the floor! Give the defenders time to make their adjustments as you're making your reads.

5) Teachers with IQ 🧠🧐 I’ve seen many programs come into the AAU scene hot and heavy - not because of their talent, but because they are coached well. This is how you build equity within your pipeline!! Colleges gravitate towards well-coached players and programs.

1) Social Media Presence 📲 Sometimes the most recruitable kids are the most findable ones. Your team should have a page with your roster + schedule pinned at the top. Also, put your contact info in the bio! If we can’t find/contact you, we are less likely to eval your team.
