Yesterday was 8 years since our daughter Eliana passed. After it happened, my sister sent me this photo & quote. I love it and it encapsulates how we remember her. If you’re interested in donating to

About a month ago I watched a kid listed as 6’10” play against a kid listed as 6’8” and the kid listed at 6’8” was a half inch taller than the kid listed as 6’10” and neither of them was taller than 6’7”.
From weighing 1lb 15oz at birth and not being able to breathe on his own to telling me “leave me alone dad, for real, I’m trying to sleep” on his 5th birthday yesterday, it’s been an emotional and wild ride so far! Happy belated, Jordan!
I’m rewatching

episodes 1+2 and I can’t help but imagine how good MJ would have been if Phil Jackson would‘ve had the foresight to throw exercise balls at him while MJ was simultaneously grabbing another small medicine ball from Tex Winter as he worked on his finishes.
6 yrs ago, our sweet Eliana passed away from NEC after 39 days. She was born 13 inches + weighed < 2 lbs. Despite her short time w/us, her impact on our family’s life is immeasurable. To learn more about our story + to donate

It’s an honor to get promoted. I am very lucky that I get to work with an unbelievable staff/administration and get to coach great people/players! I couldn’t be more excited for the season!
July was a success. We still have 2 scholarships available for the class of 2019, so I don’t know if I can count these as commitments, but they’re definitely getting full room and board for the foreseeable future. Born July 27 - everyone healthy and happy!
You love to see it…no trainer, no coach, no organized workout. You just need determination, a work ethic, and a basketball!

New court looks pretty tough too 👀.
Recruits should start playing 2 their audience more on highlight film music - put on songs that I want to hear. I know you'll get more likes if the edit has Migos, but 4 me you're guaranteed at least a 3 min viewing if it's Nas/Jay-Z/OutKast/Springsteen. U want

My 6 year old had his first basketball practice yesterday and I asked him what his favorite part was. He said “we did some fun drills during brunch”. I said huh? He said, “you know, in between the beginning and middle of practice.” 🤦♂️🤷♂️
3 years ago we (just me) started a tradition of buying my wife shirts she absolutely despises for Mother’s Day. She’s typically upset initially but they always seem to make their way into her around the house repertoires. 🤷🏻♂️ This year’s purchase ⤵️.
In between getting treatments, surgeries, and privately battling colon cancer, Chadwick Boseman was making groundbreaking movies. AND during filming, he was also visiting children with cancer in hospitals to brighten their days and make their lives better. Goddamn. What a star.
It’s not every day that St. Jude gets a visit from an Avenger! Thank you
@ChadwickBoseman
for stopping by to bring joy to our patients and learn more about our lifesaving mission! ❤ 🎉
I think rhyming an offensive scheme (Pace and Space, Run and Gun, Small Ball) helps it catch on. I’ve got some new ones: Drive and Thrive (attack rim), The Transition Mission (play fast), Shoot and Loot (jack 3s + press 4 steals), Motion Devotion (read + react + nothing else).
My son's virtual class (he's 6) is learning about fact vs fiction. Teacher said "U can't hum while holding Ur nose, fact or fiction?" I scoffed & thought, "fiction, duh". Then I turned chair around so my son didn't see's & tried 2 hum while holding my nose. Turns out it's a fact.
I told my son we scored 89 points last night and that our offense is improving. He looked at me, said, “did you defend though?” then crossed his legs, sat like this, showed me a picture of Kermit drinking tea, and carried on.
This was a special group. Change can be hard, but the returners welcomed a new staff and new teammates with open arms. Stuck together all year and played our best ball at the right time. Truly impressive maturity/team-first mentality from everyone! Couldn’t be prouder!

Incredibly excited for
@Coach_Greenman
, who has been named head coach for the United States Open Men's Basketball Team for the 21st Maccabiah Games next July in Israel!
You’re never as good as U think U are after a win or as bad as U think U are after a loss, but if U don’t practice every day with the same passion/energy/desire to improve U feel when you’re at your lowest after a loss, you’ll never be as good as U can be.
#FridayFeelings
It happens to the best of us coaches (+ me too), but U never feel good about being the offer that people comment on + say, “Congrats! JUST THE BEGINNING!” or “They’re sleeping on you. MANY MORE TO COME!”. Come on friends of recruits - need more “it’s time to commit” comments! 😂
Pretty crazy that
@Coach_Greenman
has the same ranking in the Top Patriot League Assistants as he does in our parents ranking of their favorite child. Congrats!

It’s not fun having a bad game, but coming home 2 this note from my son helped lessen the blow. Only gave him 3 stars tho b/c he addressed me as “Scott” not “Dad” & b/c gift under pillow was our gameday program (clearly a regift because I gave it to him). Was hoping 4 gift card.
This Saturday, in memory of our daughter, Eliana, and in celebration of our son, Jordan, my family will be participating in the

Talked w/dad of 1 of our guys + he shared what he’s telling son 2 help keep perspective: “Compared 2 what a lot of 18-22 year olds have been asked 2 sacrifice 4 their country, taking a mini hiatus from sports, wearing a mask + physical distancing seems pretty f****** reasonable.”
Though we were asked by many ppl over the weekend if we were in town for a modeling convention, it was actually for

New season, new blood, new challenges. Looking forward to getting after it with this crew! Even if some of their faces seem to suggest otherwise.
@AU_MBasketball
In 14 years of coaching, I've never seen someone miss shots consistently in practice who makes them consistently in games, and vice versa. There's no such thing as "game shooters". Nobody turns it on when the lights are on. You just do what you've practiced every day.

to my wife, mom, sister, and every other mother doing remarkable things every day!
A sign you’re letting your 5 year old watch too much basketball on TV during quarantine: I say, “Come watch with me - it’s a tie game and there’s only 2:15 left in the 4th.” And he replies, “2 minutes 15 seconds is still a lot of time. So much can happen.”
This team was an absolute joy to coach during very difficult times. An unselfish group who truly enjoyed the success of each other. They improved quickly and immensely despite disjointed & minimal practices/games...but most importantly - stuck together through it all!
This video was sent to me by my wife after our kids’ cross country flight yesterday. Nap time didn’t go so great, but one of our kids yells out, “Mom, the meatloaf, we need it now!” And I couldn’t be prouder.

I learned an incalculable amount about basketball, society, and life in the three years I spent around Big Coach at Georgetown. He was brilliant, made you think, and challenged you to be as good as you could possibly be. RIP.
My 92 y.o. grandmom (pictured below w/me at my Bar Mitzvah) passed away this weekend + was buried today, on
#HolocaustRemembranceDay
. She lived a remarkable life - fleeing Nazi persecution + the Lida ghetto liquidation to then survive for months in the the Naliboki Forest. (1/2)
Bobby Portis dropping 💎’s! “Sometimes money isn’t everything. It’s about happiness…I found happiness here. When I first got here I felt welcomed, I felt loved, the guys made me feel at home, the coaches made me comfortable.”
On this April 12, 2022, the 25th anniversary of my Bar Mitzvah, I feel an obligation to bless the timeline. Shout out to my mom for the photography and graphics. The theme of the Bar Mitzvah party was “commercials”. You’re all welcome.

Recruiting tip of the eve: Don't be the "height regression guy". Guy who goes from being listed as 6'8" on his twitter bio to 6'7" in an email subject line to 6'6" in the body of that email to 6'5" on the title slide of his highlight film.

The quarantine has created a Jewish Mom/Grandmother bizarro world 4 me. I‘m calling them + saying things like, “You barely call me anymore.”, “How am I supposed to know how ur doing if you only call once a week?” “You should date Leo, he seems nice + he’s a doctor.”
#RoleReversal
I don’t want to say I made him who he is, but we did order a bottle of Moët at my bachelor party in 2013, so I did play a small part in it all. You’re welcome, Bernard.
Great, refreshing article with 2 quotes that stood out to me:
1) "When I came up, it was never about me. It was about winning and the team." -- Otto Porter
2) "If you don't love Otto Porter, you are the problem". -- Scott Brooks
The 1st time I met Coach Carril was early on during my freshman year at Princeton. He’d just finished coaching in the Western Conf Finals w/the Kings & would come to our practices when he was in town. At that time I was a relatively skilled but wasn’t the toughest guy around.
Remembering our daughter, Eliana, today with love on her 3rd angelversary ❤️. I wanted to share her story and our support for the

Great advice for athletes and coaches: “I’ve gotten through it, {the noise/distractions/nonsense} by focusing like a laser beam on exactly what my goal is.”
“When U put somebody in front of the dribbler, everything changes, so U have to practice dribbling against a defender if U want to become a good dribbler. You have to play a lot to become a great dribbler and if U don’t play much, there’s no way to make up for it.” - Pete Carril
College Coaches: It’s hard enough lugging bulky packets around tourneys. Don’t let your pen make things harder. Runny ink? Side of hand getting all red, black, & blue?

Thankful for these two families - through good wins/bad losses, good offense/bad defense, questionable Halloween costume choices, and everything in between.
Congrats to American assistant coach Scott Greenman on being named one of 50 impactful low major assistant coaches in Men’s NCAA Division One Basketball -

Some cute “dada’s” from the young ones and then a cold hearted shot from the 4 year old...”his beard is changing colors, mom”. Thanks son - not at all self conscious about the grays. At least say it to my face when I can defend myself. This new generation, man, I’ll tell ya.
Early New Years Resolutions 4 coaches & their Twitter game in 2021: 1) No referring to significant others as a "recruit" or making recruiting analogies (5 star, bluechip, etc) for engagement announcements. 2) No saying "Great day to be a {school nickname}” when a recruit commits.
Since nobody asked, I think the biggest difference b/t high level college & NBA ball is the overall understanding of how to play. NBA players' IQ/Vision/Passing/Defensive Understanding is off the charts! Ppl take 4 granted how smart players are b/c of how easy they make it look.
Not to be cliche, but my brother: gives it 110%, does his best when his back is against the wall, takes it one day at a time, is a gym rat, leads by example, grinds, is a good worker but a better person, defense wins championships, there’s no I in team, and he’s a rising star.
Reppin’ the squad on the last day of school! 👍 Since I’m out of town and my wife has all three kids I won’t comment on her lack of hair gel usage for the last day of school photo because that would be 1) mean and 2) would probably get me in trouble.
Been an obviously trying year, but a major positive heading into 2021 is being able 2 coach this team. Hard working, talented, exuberant, & lots of fun 2 be around. V excited 2 enter a new year with them (all of them when photo is expanded, not just those seen while scrolling)!
“Gotta work on the little things like diving on the floor for loose balls if you want to be great”. That’s what I tell my son and that’s what you see here. But really you just need a flamethrower 🔥🏀💦 and some dribble moves. 😆
Give a man a play and he’ll be able to run that play for a day. Teach a man how to play and he’ll be able to run any play for a lifetime.
