The commencement of the Class of 2002 marked a milestone for The Citadel. The first African American women cadets graduated that year, seven in all. Today, 20 years later, those seven graduates reunited on campus.
This weekend, over 500 members of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets will join the Long Gray Line and progress to their next chapter in life. About 34% of those graduating will move on to careers as commissioned military officers.
Citadel cadets continued the years-long tradition of participating in Charleston’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade. After, they honored Dr. King’s legacy of service and leadership by volunteering at sites in the community—a core tenant of developing principled leaders.
Welcome back, cadets! Our team has been hard at work to set conditions for cadets to return to campus in an environment that is safe, healthy and effective. This morning, we're welcoming the athletic cadre back to campus as we kickoff the next phase of Operation Fall Return.
This afternoon, Gov. Henry McMaster visited The Citadel to present Capt. Eugene “Geno” Paluso, ’89 and Lt. Col. Pam Barton, with South Carolina’s highest civilian honor – The Order of the Palmetto.
This weekend we were supposed to gather to celebrate the 178th anniversary of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets. This is a Corps Day unlike any we've ever celebrated before. We will get through this test and come back together stronger than ever.
