I give to you the HemiNail 🤷♂️🤦♂️
P.s this is a real implant different name.
I look up the picture below all the time. Very hard to explain to patients that an abnormality on a scan doesn't mean it has to have surgery. Worth spending the time with them though.

. Absolutely fantastic team and an inspirational patient. So much hard work behind the scenes by so many. Happy to join the club!
Not everything is resolved with an MRI. Fantastic talks today at summer
@scotorth
. Highlight for me was the session on ?scaphoids by
@jmceachan
, Forth Valley ED and Ed Ducksworth. Odd given I'm a lower limb surgeon. Point is scans do not solve problems & maybe create more...
Congratulations to all the West of Scotland trainees for passing FRCS(tr&orth). 100% pass rate. It was hard enough going through the exam pre-covid. Cannot imagine the stress of exam + Covid.
Well done!!! 🥳🎉🥳🎉
@mikegalsworthy
The maths isn't sound. There was lower turnout in EU elecs.
37% Vs 72%
Also need to incl UKIP and half Tory and labour votes.
This = 7.6mil votes. Once tallied to account for the voter turnout this
~ 14.8million.
So I've done my best to be fair but
#brexit
still comes up short
Hi everyone. This may not seem that important on the scale of things but while children are at home they could end up with broken bones. We need to focus our precious NHS resources so please:
- no risky activities
- supervise your children
#coronavirus
It is heartbreaking speaking to patients today about their joint replacements. Clearly the delay and lockdown has had a massive impact on the quality of life and perhaps mental health and wellbeing.
At least we are starting to give these patients the surgeries they need.

I had this debate at uni. I was chastised for highlighting it is a deeply flawed strategy to expect everyone to be a healthy weight and only worsens the stigma.
WTAF are they doing weighting 5yr olds at school anyway?!?!
5yrs medical school, 2yrs foundation, 2years core surgery, 6years T&O. Today is my last day at work before CCT. Thank you all along the way and a big thank you to

I've got an orthopaedic joke. I think you'll find it humerus. I've also got a paediatric orthopaedic joke but it's only a little humerus. In fact I've got loads of ortho jokes written down at home, reams & reams of them. I also have a joke about a bad knee but that needs revised!
"The upshot of all this is that public sector workers are being penalised by reductions in their pay for reasons that do not bear up to scrutiny. Public sector pay increases do not translate into higher inflation"
As we come out of lockdown I can't help but think of those with arthritis and musculoskeletal conditions who have quietly been struggling at home and in pain. Hope we can get back operating soon!

Just to echo all the clinician on here who understand health care. Death from sepsis is most commonly not a preventable tragedy. There are occasions where care standards are below par but these are the vast MINORITY. You cannot prevent every death from every condition.
@nhsjuniordoc
A ward clerk once apologised for speaking to me after she found out I was someone 'important'.
A) I'm no more important than anyone else
B)Why doesn't she see she's important

I noticed she neglected to mention the wasted election she called or the bung she paid to the DUP. So much is her fault. Her redlines, her deal, her delays.

Retention, retention, retention
Not just doctors but across the spectrum in healthcare.
A labour government must make the NHS an attractive place to work.
You can turn the tap on but you've got to put the plug in to fill the sink.
@MattHancock
The
@Conservatives
are a party of dishonest self interested rich people who care not for the health, wealth, and well-being of the majority of people. You're on the wrong team.
@MattHancock
And introducing a fine is not going to solve anything. You are about to get rid of a 4hr target which is based on evidence. And at the same time introduce a fine on the basis that all deaths from sepsis are preventable. Sad times for all the staff working in NHS England.
So sad. Possibly the worst thing we ever did was name our surgery ‘elective’. It makes it sound expendable. Living with severe
#hip

#knee
arthritis is awful yet there is a ‘cure’. The
@NHSuk
needs to protect its elective surgery with green sites.

Competency based progression in training.
Those who are a "generational talent" can be fast tracked. Those who require more time and support get it.
Good to see a move from numbers ST3-8 to phases.

So far in 2021 I have managed to:
Take the Christmas tree outside
Organise the leftover biscuits/crisps
Eat said leftovers
Find Grey's Anatomy on prime
So far in 2021 I am winning!

Englishman here. Moved to Glasgow 2018. Never had a single bit of abuse. Haven't regretted the move ever. It's just a bit wet and windy sometimes (all the time 😬).
But the countryside is great!!
Tomorrow I will be teaching on Back Pain. i will cover the key history and examination, investigations and management. I will take you through Cauda Equina Syndrome & some x-rays & MRI scans. There's a prize & a quiz. 143 joined last time. Let see if we can have >150 tomorrow
This makes for some difficult reading.
The culture in healthcare needs to improve.
It doesn't sound hard either:
Provide a fair wage
Support training opportunities
Thank people for their efforts
Don't be violent or abusive

Hi Jason. People seem to listen to you. Can you remind those at home, now is not the time for some DIY. No going up stepladders, no power tools etc. Orthopaedics concerned people will hurt themselves and we will have to compromise care and it will take resource away from ITU etc.
Orthopaedics is life long learning:
During training you keep going till you get it right
As a consultant you keep going till you can't get it wrong

Also if you see her profile you'll notice she is autistic (Asperger's). Maybe this explains her delivery style. To me she is just an honest awesome human being. She's highlighting a problem at face value and we should ignore her at our peril
Some positives from this month of firsts:
1. First Nanoscope in the NHS in Scotland

With all the discussion around nurses, paramedics, jnr Dr's etc striking.
How much does the NHS spend on agency staff and locums?
And if pay and conditions improve meaning more staff in post will there be a cost?
Or could decent pay and conditions save money for the NHS?
