"Hughes took me to the movies. Back then, my English was just terrible. We went to the movie "Dune" and I didn't understand anything at all. I sat for 2.5 hours and couldn't understand anything. Hughes then said, 'well that was hard to understand even for me.'"
-Vasily Podkolzin
Is it a coincidence that every single
#Canucks
players is staying on the ice late after practice to work on things after Kevin Bieksa came by yesterday?
I think notβ¦
βBo came up to me to see if I wanted the puckβ¦ it's kind of funny, but it's not funny.β
-Quinn Hughes on the reaction from his captain after scoring his first goal of the season
Andrey Kuzmenko just skated up behind Ethan Bear and gave him a big hug.
Iβm sure you wanted this updateβ¦
Top-notch reporting over here at Rogers Arena.
I asked Elias Pettersson about a little thing that he liked in the 5-0 win.
βHΓΆgs almost getting in a fight. That was pretty fun. I'll take that.β
-Elias Pettersson
Day one as the Canucksβ Senior Hockey Writerβ¦
Can confirm that this freaking rules.
The crowd has been electric all game long and tonight has to be up there for the highest fun/60 on the season.
My first attempt speaking Swedish to Elias Pettersson was a FLOP.

I tried to say βvery goodβ as we were getting set up for his media availability but I actually said βvery eveningβ.
He corrected me.
We will recover from this.
Iβll be doubling up on the Duolingo this week.
Happy to be back after the most amazing weekend ever.
Cheers to everyone who made our wedding day so amazing.
I love my wife so much and canβt wait to carry on our life together.
Now, back to tweeting about hockey.

I talked to Vasily Podkolzin last night about the
#Canucks
adding Sergei Gonchar to the staff.
I also mentioned to him that Andrei Kuzmenko called Gonchar a legend.
Podkolzin laughed and said, βyeah, thatβs Kuzy just looking to get some more ice time.β
In the past 48 hours the
#Canucks
have:
-Won 8-1 in home opener (4-goal night for Brock Boeser)
-Got goals from their top two prospects Jonathan LekkerimΓ€ki (SHL) and Tom Willander (NCAA)
-AHL Canucks win 7-4 (4-point night for Bains and 2 goals for Podkolzin)
Good. Good. Good.
Oh, so yeah, I joined the
@Canucks
as a contributor.
I'll be talking about the AHL and other prospects!
Very excited to be contributing to the Canucks Sports and Entertainment. π
Here's my first instalment of Views from the Valley!
Jonathan LekkerimΓ€ki with an absolute beauty today!
π¨π¨π¨π¨π¨π¨π¨π¨
Heβs now up to 8 goals on the season and has the solo lead on goals in the SHL.

Just a horrendous night.
Iβve followed this team for all of my life. The first 25 years as a fan and the last 4 as part of the media.
Iβve never felt this feeling towards BCβs team. We all just want them to be successful or at least give us stories to enjoy. Nobody enjoys this.
Can confirm that Vasily Podkolzin, Arturs Silovs, Spencer Martin, Sheldon Dries, Will Lockwood, and Nic Petan have joined the Abbotsford Canucks in California.
Yesterday we lost an amazing woman.
One of the most important people in raising me. My stepmom Nikki Faber died from a stroke.
She was the kindest, most giving and nurturing person.
My dad will never be the same but we are going to get all the family together and do our best.
Well, some personal news.
Earlier this week, I gave my two weeks' notice and will be leaving
@CanucksArmy
.
My last day will be November 5th.
We have a great team here and I know CA will continue to thrive.

Tyler Motte had a great debut game with the New York Rangers.
He led the Rangers with a 69.57% Corsi for percentage.
Led the team in individual scoring chances (4).
Led the team in shots (4).
Second on the team in individual expected goals (0.35).
All in 13:06 of ice time.
The Canucks have a 3% chance of winning the draft lottery.
No eligible team has worse odds to win the first overall pick.
They are totally getting Bedard.
"I was fired up. I was very fired up. So happy for him and it's fun seeing him and his celly's."
-Elias Pettersson on Nils HΓΆglander scoring two goals in the opening six minutes of the game
Aatu Raty gets the warning in the faceoff dot and then switches to right-handed.
I've seen him do this quite often. It takes advantage of the curve on your backhand when you flip the stick.
#CanucksProspect
Andrey Kuzmenko played 18:04 in his NHL debut.
The shot totals during his 18:04 were 20 for the Canucks and two for the Oilers.
I repeat, 20-2 was the shot count with Kuzmenko on the ice.
DAWG/60 through the roof.
Andrew Kuzmenko said that he gave a stick away in pregame because the fanβs sign said that they wanted a Kuzmenko stick for their motherβs birthday.
Kuzmenko said he liked the sign.
βWhen you see a kid want a stick [and then] smile β how can you say no about it. I just try to make [their] life much better.β
-Andrei Kuzmenko on giving sticks to kids in pregame
(from his translator Vitali Kravtsov)
Bitter sweet feeling as Iβve given my two weeks notice and will be leaving Sportsnet650 on June 18th.
Iβve learned a lot in my time at 650 but am even more excited for the new opportunity that Iβve been offered and a team wanting to invest in me as a host and content creator.
"I don't know what's wrong with them. They are said to have been cursed. With such a composition, not to pass the first round is amazing."
-Vasily Podkolzin on the Toronto Maple Leafs
The kid is smart...
Here is Andrei Kuzmenko in postgame media tonight.
I asked him about giving sticks to kids in pregame.
I highly recommend giving this a listen. Heβs just been awesome to deal with all season long and keeps getting better somehow.
(Translated from Vitali Kravtsov)
I am shocked.
The Canucks need Filip Hronek to be a great fit with Quinn Hughes.
Moving on from a first-round pick is quite shocking to me when you look at where this team is at in its competitive cycle.
This is the cost of a top-four right-shot defenceman, though.
Latvia wins 3-1 against Sweden.
Arturs Silovs stops 40 of the 41 shots he faced.
HE IS INCREDIBLE!
Just an incredible scene as they host the World Championships. They will face Canada in the semifinals and I might be rooting for them against my home country...

Danila Klimovich and Vasily Podkolzin have been spending a lot of time on-ice together this summer.
They remain in Vancouver, working out locally for next season.
