In a world filled with transphobic creators like JK Rowling and Anti-Autistic organisations like Mattel, it is really special to see people like Britt Allcroft, who I deeply admire and look up to, be an advocate for autistic fans. #ActuallyAutistic #ThomastheTankEngine

This is going to upset a lot of people.... BUT: Daisy, and the two stories she was featured in were purposely left out of Shining Time Station. Yes, it was indeed intentional. Let me try to explain this in a thread:

Nothing makes my autism stimming come out more than the Australian ABC-TV broadcasts of shows with cool music (like Thomas etc) with an announcer over the credits promoting stuff at the ABC Shops. A sneak peek of what's coming to TV Patrol in the new year.

Fact of the day: If you do the mathematic work, you can figure out that Greg Heffley of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series was born in 1995. Do you know what else happened in 1995? Series 4 of Thomas, introducing Sir Handel, came out. This is not a coincidence.

This is *barely* the tip of the iceberg. If people were truly aware of the amount of stuff that gets junked (film rushes, music masters, photographic slides, and in some cases original masters), they would be horrified and a lot of big companies would no longer be worshipped. 1/2

One of the craziest things I’ve ever done — the entire classic series of Thomas S1-7 + all the songs across three tapes. There’s also some extra eps hidden on them to fill up blank space. They are in a random order, with a mix of UK and US dubs. It’s a great drinking game idea

So, consider the situation. They had just launched Thomas in the US, as part of Shining Time Station. There was obviously the issue of no female-identifying engines. Rick Siggelkow saw the Daisy stories and character and instantly said 'no. this will make the problem worse'

He was right -- because no matter how you look at it, the character design, while humourous, is oddly sexist. Overly feminised faces etc. But he came to a compromise with Britt - and they decided to dub the episodes ONLY for video, and release Daisy toys with the STS brand.

The general idea was great. But Mattel and the company they had contracted to produce the series (I don’t think I should name it) were relying on fan labour and were not paying a fair wage to editors etc. I know this because I was an editor and was fired because I spoke up.

Okay, this should be interesting. What are your thoughts on the TCC in general (and looking back on it now). Me: Used to be good until Sodor's Finest and TGR characters, and soon after: the last straw w/ JBS and BWBA and with NO proper finale and overused storyline tropes.😠

Rick was very involved with Series 3 and many of the stories were his idea (see my interview with him, on YT) -- so this is when he decided to address the issue of no female engines that weren't a stereotype -- via Mavis, who was changed from her book appearances. Mavis is great.

So why did Daisy re-appear in Series 4 and 'Thomas Tales'? Because while Rick was involved at this point, he began to have less and less say for various reasons, until he got tired of it and left for the BBC. Simple as that.

In conclusion, I'm not just saying that I agree with Rick because he's my mentor and friend, but he definitely had a point. The character design was sexist, arguably the book illustrations were LESS so! If someone wants to put this on the wiki -- feel free, but cite this tweet.

Interesting topic I haven't spoken about in public before -- but... There is an ongoing trend with companies that own the rights to various TV shows, and because they're either old, or kids programs, or both... they think that it is 'acceptable' to throw materials out.

My ABC Radio interview has been posted by itself on the ABC Website!!! I guess they really liked what I'm doing and felt like showcasing it. Love the ABC. They even played the Johnson theme AND the Thomas theme. @RecordsSilbert

I am happy to say I helped to secure Rick for Carty’s film. It has been breathtaking (but not surprising!) to see what he’s been able to do and I am very happy I was able to help in this small way. Now AUF will have one of the most influential people behind Thomas in it! ❤️❤️

I cannot overstate how cool Rick Siggelkow is. He graciously welcomed my crew into his house, let us ask him a gazillion questions, and gave one of the greatest interviews I’ve ever filmed. He also changed the course of the film’s narrative for the better. More on that soon.

#AnUnlikelyFandom -- @cartycinema was kind enough to send me a preview of the film - because I am unable to make it to the premiere. It was a beautiful work of art, made me shed a tear. You really, really need to see this film if you care about Thomas. So worth the wait.

One of these days I should write a tell-all non fiction book about this stuff. Actual examples of stuff that was junked. Who did it. Who called the shots. Can’t be slander if it’s actually true. ✌️ Until then, I’ll keep doing what I’m doing - keeping retro kids tv alive.

Obligatory New Zealand tape collection. Mostly Thomas. No imports included.

I don't like being a naysayer, but this is bad. This is exactly the kind of standard we don't want set for DVDs and home media which is now basically exclusive to collectors. Umatic isn't great, but you can get a far better result than this. Disappointed tbqh.

The TUGS DVD isn't awful. It's fine. I'm aware how soft Umatic can look, but the crushed black levels aren't fine. The deinterlacing isn't fine. This should've been handled by video professionals. Not prop people.

I remember another classic Tom moment where he said if the Squeaky the Robot prop from Johnson ever turned up he wants it. And I’m like…bro you don’t even care about that show - you have a hoarde of Thomas props you’re sitting on and you want the funny robot from J&F?
