Not an expert, but understand all polls rely on (large) existing panels. I believe people are signed up beforehand and are then prompted, randomly, to log in and do the poll in question. Weighting is applied to balance for age, gender etc. I would think this passes muster.
@MichaelACT123
Yes, the polls are technically valid, but as I said even ABC pollsters advise caution on these given the unique nature of the issue. I did say that the 80% poll is strictly speaking valid.

Great tweet

Very factual and logical. Warren Mundine has been saying the same thing for sometime. It’s ironic that the voice is supposed to be all about listening to First Nations has such a pathetic sample. Shows that First Nations support of the voice is trash
@ChavuraStephen
So ironic you sitting there in your car, pompously taking voices away from indigenous people & replacing them with your white voice in order to stop them having a louder voice.
@ChavuraStephen
Well done. Good observations and well articulated. I had this feeling when I was looking into the polls too. Can you share the link to your references? I only found one survey report when I was looking.
@yes23au
When providing stats it’s always good to clarify what the sample size is and a reference to the survey results…
For example, 400/800,000 = 0.05% of the indigenous population. Hardly a definitive statement.
"80% of Indigenous Australians support the voice to parliament"
Let's break down the facts from the ABC fact check page; link included at the bottom of this post.
* Two polls were conducted earlier this year.
* First one was in January, and had 181 self-identified Aboriginals…

I live near Ulladulla on the South Coast of NSW. We have a community group so we invited local (Yuin) elders to speak to us.
Firstly, they were not keen on 97% whites determining their (3%) direction. All said they had not been personally consulted and knew no blackfullas 1/2
@ChavuraStephen
The Yes case wants to obfuscate. I agree that indigenous people are not really canvassed properly in what they'd like, but it's not that relevant if 3% of the population is indigenous.
@ChavuraStephen
they've heard of it now. The majority are in favour of it. Most of those who are NOT in favour only oppose it because they think it doesnt go far enough & want actual power to decide things via a treaty. Not sure why you, a white man. are trying to negate Indigenous opinions
@ChavuraStephen
It's actually looking like the Voice referendum is going to fail.
Most Australians don't want it.
(It needs a supermajority to pass - a majority of votes in a majority of states).
