Imagine a horder’s house goes ablaze because it’s full of junk and paper and a spark sets it off. You can try to prevent it happening again by turning up the air conditioning to lower the temperature or you can declutter the house. That’s the debate we’re having right now.
@ChavuraStephen
Absolutely everyone agrees that reducing fuel loads is a good idea. Everybody.
These aren’t happening as much as they should. Why not? Because extreme temperatures are making them harder.
Why is that happening? Hmmm.
@Mattch_Almighty
Yep, harder but far from impossible or ineffective. Problem is that if we make changing the climate the main object of our efforts in reducing fires then political and economic reality dooms us to failure. Creative policy re fuel reduction and fire fighting absolute priority.
@ChavuraStephen
And turning the air conditioner to make it cooler won't stop the fire.
You are right. The amount of combustible material is what will make it burn.
And then only if something or someone ignites it.
@ChavuraStephen
Imagine a patient who is severely dehydrated with a fever. You can try to prevent organ failure by reducing core temperature and reintroducing fluids, or you can tell them to just take more clothes off, even if they’ve already done that. That’s the debate we’re having right now.
