Looking at anonymised & aggregated mobile phone data reveals leisure behaviour on Sat 21 March📱
NEW ANALYSIS by

We analysed anonymised and aggregated mobile phone data from between Sat 15 Feb and Sat 21 March and found that nationally, visits to centres of cities and large towns on Sat 21 March were around half their 'normal level'.
Across cities and large towns, non-residents and suburban residents saw the biggest falls — perhaps unsurprisingly. However, the falls were most most dramatic in London and the large cities and less so in others.
There are 2⃣ things to learn:
1⃣ The high street appears to have been affected by the pandemic for some time before the lockdown was introduced on 23 March, effectively elongating the impact on these businesses.
2⃣ People did respond to official advice on reducing travel.
