That age is fine. You don’t want him to start spraying. Most rescue groups in US do it at 4lbs. There is a blood test they can do right before a neuter that tests whether they are safe to be under anesthesia. You can have that done to give you extra peace of mind.

Yeah and I’m noticing just these past few weeks his play is becoming a bit more aggressive with my other (male, neutered) cat and he’s mounting his back, so I think it’s time!
@Cat_Fred_
5 months for him, he was nervous too. The harder part was stopping him from jumping and climbing afterwards. Didn't appear to phase his energy
@telliabear
Yep! Cedric got done in December 2021 and he kept climbing the Christmas tree afterwards, we ended up having to take it down in case he burst his stitches 😂

When I fostered kittens, they did it at 2 pounds, about 2-3 months old .. when you do it young, you’ll heal better too 😸🙌🏼❣️ you’ll bounce right back

My boy Bertram just got neutered on September 14th and he was born April 4th. He did great even the day of surgery he came home like nothing happened 😺
@Cat_Fred_
I've heard 6 months. When a male cat is neutered too early they can get urinary blockages later. Check with your vet. It may depend upon their individual physical development.
@Cat_Fred_
We have rescued cats and the younger ones, male and female, we fix around 5-6 months before they (the males) start spraying, because once they start it will never stop.
@Cat_Fred_
Well, I’ve had rescues, so they usually came to me as already neutered. One kitty I had to have done - he was six months old when I got him and hadn’t been neutered yet. I think 5-6 months is the usual range.
