It’s been exactly a year without my mom and I’ve found it’s the little things that I miss and make me the most emotional.
Point in case, the notes she’d leave me when she couldn’t stay up until I came back from work or when she left to run an errand.
Miss you, Mom. ❤️
The newest HRRR model run has 70 inches of snow falling in less than 24 hours just south of Buffalo, NY.
This is shaping up to be potentially one of the most extreme snowstorms in US history.
It may only be February 10, but I feel like I have a candidate for viewer comment of the year…
Please enjoy this laugh with me because I was cracking up when I opened this.
And yes, I am completely ignoring EVERYTHING that’s written here.
Plans change in the most unexpected ways.
I’m officially taking on a freelance stint in Cleveland at
@wkyc
with the
#3Weather
team. See you dark and early for the morning show this weekend!
Onto the next fun adventure of growth and development! And no, I’m not moving 😅
13 years ago, on this day, I bugged someone enough to let me tour
@WGRZ
.
And lucky enough, they let me come back and my keycard to get into the building still works. 😅
Two people in this photo have a combined three terminal degrees (PhD, MD, and JD) and guess who doesn’t have one yet…🤪
My sister is DONE with residency! Congrats, Dr. Lam!
I have gotten texts and messages from people who have watched over the past few days. Thank you, truly.
Thank you for trusting our
@WGRZ
TEAM with important information during this time. None of it would be possible without our producers, directors, and engineering staff.
So appreciative of the recognition by
@BfloBizFirst
for the 30 Under 30 list for 2022 (and
@WGRZ
for the graphic/confetti).
This award isn’t really about me though. It’s celebrating what my parents taught me about working hard but also working smart.
For me and my mom, I strived to treat every day like Mother’s Day and not just on this one day.
For all the moms out there, and especially to those we remember, Happy Mother’s Day. ❤️
I hope I didn't come off as too tired today during Daybreak because I've pulled my first all nighter in like...10 years.
I am going to take the most incredible nap when I get home...
As of 4:48 p.m., it is currently warmer in Buffalo than Boston, New York City, Chicago, Miami, Denver, Los Angeles, and San Diego.
Buffalo summers are elite. That's all.
@WGRZ
#StormTeam2
Vacation was well worth the wait.
#Vancouver
and
#Whistler
were both stunning and seeing mountain snow for the first time just about blew my damn mind.
Biggest weather pet peeve on the vernal equinox is when people say it’s the “longest day of the year.”
No, there are 24 hours in a day. So it’s not the longest. IT’S THE DAY WITH THE MOST AMOUNT OF DAYLIGHT.
Thank you for coming to my Weather Ted Talk.
I was putting away my ties this morning and couldn’t help but think of my mom.
She would always accompany me on those shopping trips but always also asked if I *really needed* another one…❤️
The email has gone out to the team, so it’s official!
I’m joining the First Alert Weather Team at
@news10nbc
in a fill-in capacity. There’s nothing more exciting than adding a little more to the plate!
This is why double checking your work is helpful.
Just clarifying that it will be 50° on Monday and not 150°. See you tonight at 6 on
@WGRZ
!
#StormTeam2
To my TV sister (who could easily be my actual sister), thank you for the professionalism, thoughtfulness, dedication, and joy you brought to every shift.
All of us are better because we’ve spent time working with and learning from you. ❤️
Nothing but love and gratitude for this amazing group right here — my weekend Daybreak family ❤️
And to those of you who have been along for the ride for the past 17.5 years, thank you ❤️
@wgrz
Well, those breathers didn’t last long…
Super excited to join
@KDKA
as a freelancer to help cover some vacations in the coming months!
And also to start Master’s Degree
#5
online through
@stonybrooku
😅
Okay, life is back to its chaotic self now.
2 friends from Channel 2 who had tickets for 2 flights to NYC for a wedding. Flights were canceled so we broke it into 2 legs of a trip to get to the main attraction.
The number 2 is clearly very important to me.
The funniest moment from traveling to Orlando for work was when I was outside waiting for an Uber and someone sees me and asks, "2 On Your Side?"
Like we say, there's always a Buffalo connection. 😅
On this rare (nearly full) day off and
#LunarNewYear
coming soon, it’s time for the deep clean in the only way my mother would have approved ❤️
Hands and knees, wash bucket, and cloth it is. Sorry, no Swiffer Wet Jets in this house.
Note to self: Next time I’m asked to be part of a campaign, ask what the end product will be because I had no idea my face was going to be installed onto a wall…
8:15PM UPDATE: This band has shifted south around 8-10 miles in the last 6 hours. It's a slow mover, for sure, but it's finally headed to the Southtowns.
@WGRZ
#StormTeam2
See you again tonight at 9 and 10 p.m.!
What an honor it is to meet someone who has provided feedback to me on my work for over 5 years. Grateful to be part of this opportunity!
#Colorado
please welcome
#tegna
Meteorologist
@carlhlam
who is helping us out over the holidays and I’m still recovering from surgery. He will have your holiday weekend forecast tonight on the networks of
#9News
! Thank you
@carlhlam
and welcome! 😊
The only reason I have this clip is because I worked traffic the morning of Independence Day in 2016.
And this is one of my favorite clips of
@mariagenero
and
@jb111
. A classic, one might say.
Congratulations, Maria! I am so honored to have worked with the best!
Sharing experiences about the blizzard with audiences around the world has been one of the unexpected parts of this entire experience.
Sunday and Monday were truly wild in doing reports for
@BBCBreakfast
,
@BBCWorld
, and
@bbc5live
! Nothing but gratitude for the opportunities.
I have never shared this publicly but why not, I got a 980 (reading and math) on my SATs TWICE.
Standardized tests mean ABSOLUTELY nothing to me and did not define my academic or professional career.
Flex your lowest academic low score.
To remind us that almost everyone fails at some point in life but it isn't the end of the road. Just a memory in the end.
Mine was 27/100 in Engineering Math 2, just a year after I'd scored 99 in 12th boards. Much needed kick in my butt.
Big thank you to
@AndrewBaglini4
for filling in this weekend while I am taking a little time off.
He’ll have the wildly important and meaningful forecast for tomorrow’s game!
Time to make this official! I’m excited to share that I’m joining
@News_8
as a fill-in meteorologist!
First day is Saturday and I’m ready to bring you Rochester’s most accurate forecast!
Food has always been such a personal thing for me. And I couldn’t help but tear up tonight when I had dinner tonight as I thought about my dad.
There’s this restaurant in Rochester, Chen Garden, that uses the same knife cuts and ingredients for a dish my dad used to make me.
It was the last first week of school for my MBA.
There is so much work to do across the classes I'm taking this semester but all of it is the ticket to the next chapter!
Here are snowfall totals so far from each one of our zones. These numbers will be updated with new snow falling overnight. This is just how much has recorded so far!
@WGRZ
#StormTeam2
I consider this date last year a career moment.
It was the start of 3 days trapped at the station and a true test of mental stamina for everyone involved.
I have very few photos cause that was probably the last thing on our mind but here’s a video to re-live the chaos.
17 weeks (!) on the weekends and it has been so fun to work with the AMAZING weekend crew at
@WGRZ
especially with
@ClaudineWgrz
,
@lizfuhrmann
, and
@jaysonskiba
.
It's not a permanent goodbye, I'm just rediscovering what a weekend is! I'll be back occasionally to fill-in!
Their Area Forecast Discussion last week sent chills down my spine when I read it and called it a "once in a generation" type storm.
They nailed it. Our work is built on the foundation that these fine scientists lay down.
Here is a photo of our 9 person crew of dedicated forecasters who worked around the clock from Friday through Sunday during the blizzard, with continuous forecast updates and support for first responders. We have been able to get fresh forecasters in late yesterday and today.
Sunday was my last official day at
@wkyc
.
I love this station, it helped me grow professionally, and the term "grateful" only scratches the surface for my level appreciation.
I'll share one of my favorite clips as a testament to how much fun we had.
Looks like we're going to fire up the meteorological blowtorch over the next 6-10 days here.
Lots of melting will be happening (with risk of flooding) and temperatures in Buffalo have a 90% chance of being above average!
@WGRZ
#StormTeam2
Also, as we were leaving my graduation brunch yesterday on Elmwood and just standing outside, it was like a Channel 2 mini-reunion in a matter of 6 minutes.
It was so unexpected but I loved it.
8:22PM UPDATE: This lake effect snow is just parked over Amherst, Buffalo, Cheektowaga, and Clarence.
Hard to determine what the snowfall rate is because all of it is just being blown around.
@WGRZ
#StormTeam2
Hey! First weekday evening appearance on
@WGRZ
! Talking about the wind, some rain tonight, and lots of sunshine on the Town Hall, at 9, and 11 p.m. tonight!
#StormTeam2
Quick run to Cleveland today and I had to take my mom to a place I loved after my first visit there.
I hear that this is a
@RussWKYC
approved spot too! And I would wholeheartedly agree!
What an honour to make the appearance! And I’d love to visit the bar in person some day too!
Looks good for
#BillsMafia
during the game but the tailgate is looking pretty wet!
Carl, my dude. You have all of
#BillsMafia
by the palm of your hand. Very much hopeful the rain holds off in the afternoon & evening for the game. Welcome to the Helmet Bar, too!
@CarlHLam
Attack of the massive snowflakes tonight in Downtown Buffalo.
@pathammer
and
@WNYweather
have more on the snow coming up on Daybreak starting at 4:30am on
@WGRZ
!
How did I end up here?!
Overjoyed to be filling in at
@wkyc
on Sunday morning in Cleveland! Weekend Go! is on from 6-8 a.m. and then 9-10 a.m.
Shout out to
@BetsyKling
and
@standridgewx
for all their help! It’s so appreciated!
DESERTED: Not a car to be seen on the 90 from Depew (first), down to William (second), and to Hamburg. Whiteout conditions are still major concern.
@WGRZ
JUST IN: WNY is now under a Winter Storm WARNING.
Starting at 8am Monday to 6am Tuesday for Niagara, Erie, Orleans, Wyoming, and Genesee Counties.
Starting at 11am Monday to 6am Tuesday for Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Allegany Counties.
@WGRZ
9:17PM UPDATE: This band of snow is intense. Snowfall rates could be around 2 to 3 inches per hour again and moving southeast.
This snowfall will be for everyone!
@WGRZ
#StormTeam2
Yeah, we’re not done with winter. Colder air is forecasted to push in.
If you hate winter, you’re probably not going to like March. Consider this your fair warning.
