Privacy focused mobile phone operating system built on top of the android open source project. Produced as part of the mission of the non-profit
@calyxinstitute
Everyone needs a phone. Not everyone wants governments and corporations tracking their every move and spying on their communications.
@CalyxOS
lets you have your cake and eat it too, with
#PrivacybyDesign
Huge announcement !
@CalyxOS
is now available for the
@Moto
(Motorola) G32, G42 and G52 ! Why is this a big deal ? Because it helps us further our mission of making
#PrivacyByDesign
available to the maximum amount of people around the world as we can.. (1/5)
We are super happy that the
@CalyxOS
community is rapidly growing, and want to make it clear what kind of community we want to foster and what kinds of behavior we discourage in the most clear way possible.
CalyxOS Community Pledge :
CalyxOS 5.0.2 - Android 14 is now available for the Pixel 5 series, Fold and Tablet
We're also working on the Pixel 8, and porting Android 14 to the Pixel 4, 4a, and
#Fairphone
4. Also will be releasing builds for several other new phones soon... 🤖
The Big April update ! lots of new features and bug fixes that we’ve been hard at work on over the last few months:
- Introducing Datura - our new Firewall app
- Global cleartext network traffic restriction toggle to prevent all non-TLS traffic from leaving the device

We started this twitter account in September of 2020 and never would have thought we'd hit >>>10,000<<< followers in such a short time ! We are really excited to share some of the announcements we'll be making in 2022 ! Thanks for supporting our mission
We're incredibly proud to announce the availability of
@CalyxOS
2.0.1 which is our first stable release based on Android 11 for the Pixel 2, 3, and 4 series. Over the air updates are going out to users in dozens of countries right now! Happy new year everyone !
CalyxOS 4.3.0 - November 2022 Security update is available for all supported devices - Pixel 3 through 7, and Fairphone 4.
This includes a fix for the lock screen bypass bug. For more details see

The 1st
@CalyxOS
based on
#Android14
is available for testing. We're releasing it for Pixel 6a as that's our most popular phone & all of our developers have at least one. It’ll be available for Pixel 5 and newer next week, depending on how testing goes 🥳
Seems relevant...
"A human rights activist is prosecuted under terror laws for refusing to hand over the passwords to his electronic devices during a border stop, unveiling unsettling questions about the rule of law, modern espionage and digital privacy."
Pixel 7 development is work in progress!
We've received the devices, and Google has released the source code - which means we can get started on porting CalyxOS to it.
You can follow progress at
CalyxOS 3.6.0 - June 2022 Security update is now available in the beta channel for supported Pixels (i.e. 3 and newer)
Updates for Fairphone and OnePlus devices will be available later.
CalyxOS 4.2.2 - Android 13 has been released as stable for the Fairphone 4, for existing users.
Factory images and installation instructions will be available shortly, for new users.
One of the FAQ's we get asked all the time is, when will you have support for Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G ?
Well, guess what ? This is the day ! CalyxOS for Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a (5G) builds are available now:
@402PaymentReq
@GrapheneOS
CalyxOS is really the only mobile OS developer working on stuff like this, based on our extensive user research. This is why we built SeedVault encrypted backup & why we are the only one to have integrated Panic Button tech into the OS.
We are pleased to announce that
@CalyxOS
is now available for the Pixel Tablet and the Pixel Fold !
We will have some of the devices with us at our
#defcon31
booth for you to see ( and maybe even get your hands on )
Issues like this are why we try to support devices for longer - Google has stopped providing updates for the Pixel 3, 3a, and just ended support for the Pixel 4 as well - however CalyxOS is still supporting them, and thus we were able to include the fix for this easily.

A few months ago, I ditched Apple and Android in favor of
@CalyxOS
.
After using it daily while traveling, running a business, etc. I can say I highly recommend it.
We have released our Android 13 builds to beta for most devices.
For more details, please see
We'll continue working on fixing the issues and trying to support as many devices for as long as we can.
🧵We're excited to announce the latest update of
@CalyxOS
includes free/open source real time

and

IMPORTANT: New update for Aurora privileged extension. We just pushed an update through the Calyx F-droid repo. Open F-droid & pull down to refresh and it should show up as an update. Fixes a bug in Aurora Store 4.0.6 which is fixed in 4.0.7, but 4.0.7 has not yet hit F-droid.
Happy to announce a test build of
@CalyxOS
for the
#OnePlus
9 Pro is now available ! In addition to new test build updates for
#Fairphone
4 and OnePlus 8T and 9 - with the May 2022 Security update. Please report any issues to the testers matrix channel.
-Sensitive Phone Numbers list: hides them from the call log
-Optionally scramble the lockscreen PIN
-“Background data” toggle now restricts background network access completely (even when using Wi-Fi)
-SeedVault backup: can verify and re-generate the 12 word recovery code

The latest version of Chromium, 105.0.5195.124, released about 5 hours ago has been integrated into our codebase (based on Bromite)
Google only has theirs rolling out at 25% now.
It is available through our testing F-Droid repo, and will also be included in the next OS update.

CalyxOS 4.1 - Android 13 Tiramisu is now available for testing for Pixel 4 - 6a
Pixel 3, 3a and Fairphone 4 are still under investigation.
We will also revisit OnePlus devices after that.

@cakewallet
Just wanted to mention that you can get a Pixel 4a with 5G preinstalled with CalyxOS as a thank you gift with some
@calyxinstitute
memberships, and by doing so support the sustainability of the project.
If you have the interest, or know someone who might - we would love help in translating CalyxOS's user interface into
#Japanese
( currently just 34% translated up from 2% ) as well as other languages including
#Vietnamese
(2%) and
#Tamil
(2%) - 🧐
We were asked how
@CalyxOS
is funded. The vast majority of our funding comes from individual member donations. Our memberships have benefits like hotspots with unlimited/unthrottled mobile data plans (US only) We accept
#cryptocurrency
also! See for info
Our release process uses a checklist to make sure nothing is missed.
You can follow the progress of the June update at
We're at "Build from tag", usually it would've been completed already by now but we ran into a minor issue which caused a slight delay.
@MikeStroup10
@Marketsbylili
Running any OS implies lots of trust and any update can be a pretty significant attack vector. At least our updates are cryptographically signed so you can't get a rogue update from a 3rd party. And the updates are good since we are pushing the monthly Google security patches.
So there is a lack of accessibility to folks in the
#GlobalSouth
in particular. These Motorolas cost around half of what the budget versions of Pixel phones cost and are sold in many countries in continents where Pixels are not, including in
#SouthAmerica
#Asia
and
#MENA
(3/5)
Google
#Pixel
phones are the default and easiest phones to support while maintaining the
#Android
security model with a locked boot loader and full verified boot. But they are only sold in around a dozen countries around the world. And in the big picture they are not cheap (2/5)
CalyxOS 3.6.0 - June 2022 Security update is now available in the beta channel for supported Pixels (i.e. 3 and newer)
Updates for Fairphone and OnePlus devices will be available later.
Hey! Would you like to help us improve
@CalyxOS
?
If interested in participating in user research & sharing your feedback with us, please send an email to research

P.S. we haven't forgotten about the Xiaomi Mi A2 users, we're still working on Android 11 for that phone.. as well as working on builds for the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G
CalyxOS 3.5.1 - Location indicator and Safetynet fix just pushed to beta update channel 🚀 and should be pushed to the stable update channel later this weekend if feedback is good. More info here:
We just released a new update to the beta channel for the Pixels 4 through 6a - CalyxOS 4.2.3
It should help with the 4G / 5G / MMS issues some users were facing after the Android 13 update.
@namsardar
We know it seems counter-intuitive but Pixels are arguably the most secure and most hacker-friendly phones around because they let us unlock & relock them and replace the OEM's signing key with our own. Obviously, Android is also made by Google. Also:
@matt_odell
@BitcoinQ_A
@inactivist_
@GrapheneOS
CalyxOS has a lot of privacy enhancements mostly at the application layer, like Signal integrated into the phone dialer, SeedVault encrypted backup (which we develop and is now used by Graphene and LineageOS and others) auto bluetooth shut-off (auto wifi shutoff coming soon) 1/2
@LaserHodl
@SatsTonight
@GrapheneOS
We trust and rely on Google's
@Android
security team to work on the security of the OS. We are a 6 developer team. Google's much better funded and have *many* more people and more resources to test their software with. We think we have more to contribute in the area of
#privacy
@BTCNuggets
We think
@CalyxOS
and
@CalyxInstitute
are arguably doing some of the most innovative privacy work in the mobile space, but you should see what makes sense for you !
@meastblue
@GrapheneOS
Hi, if
@Samsung
would allow bootloader unlocking of phones, and relocking / full verified boot with 3rd party signing keys, without permanently disabling parts of the hardware in the process that would be great in terms of being able to support their phones !
@komradeperogie
@OrganicMapsApp
( free software ) or Magic Earth ( ) which is not free software but with better privacy policies than google maps or waze
@sankamoto
@BitcoinQ_A
We have been considering shipping with crypto wallets or other tools but it would have to be free software and would be much easier for us if it was something in the F-Droid repository. So far we haven't found the right fit
You can support the development of
@CalyxOS
by donating to
@calyxinstitute
and getting a free hotspot with unlimited monthly data with no throttling or data cap ( in the US only unfortunately )
@ReadABook1900a
Hello! Pixel 4a is $349. It's not dirt cheap but not 'more expensive than most' either. We also support the
@Xiaomi
Mi A2 which is lower cost and more widely available around the world than Pixels. And we're always looking out for other low-cost options.
@GrassFedBitcoin
@GrapheneOS
But you've got to figure, if this industry has zero days for iOS, and seemingly endless amounts of money to buy zero days it's totally possible ...
