A MASSIVE thank you to
@BellinghamJude
for donating a signed pair of his matchworn boots to be auctioned off as part of 'A Game for Barks'.
It's all for
@SE_CE_MIND
Somehow this happened! Thank you to everyone who voted and for all the support throughout the tough times. It’s not always easy but it’s always enjoyable. Forever proud to cover my club. 🦐
I'm not one for teasing statuses when it regards something so serious but right now this is the most positive I've been in a long time regarding the club being sold and saved. 🇦🇺
Never heard a referee clapped off the pitch before but that's what happened at Roots Hall tonight as Kirsty Dowle walked back towards the tunnel after the final whistle.
Fans are now gathering in Benfleet to protest against Ron Martin’s running of Southend United. I’ll be live on Facebook soon and will also be starting a blog.
Every single Blues fan in this ground are on their feet. West Stand, East Stand and South Stand all chanting Martin Out. Incredible noise and the message is clear.
Just remembered Saturday is my 1,000th game covering Blues for the Echo! It's tougher than ever but still a privilege to be reporting on my hometown club I grew up supporting.
Busiest week of my life! 55 web uploads already, home win, consortium revealed, court appearance, on ITV Anglia, ITV London, BBC Look East, BBC Essex, The Monday Night Club on Five Live, the BBC's Football Daily 72 + podcast and next to no sleep! PS. I wasn't on EastEnders.
One of the most remarkable results I've ever seen at Roots Hall. Blues have two subs and have been in a transfer embargo since September LAST year. But they fought hard and beaten their expensively assembled opponents.
Powell: "There is a Southend flag at every single game and I always look out for it and think what a tough time it's been for Southend fans in the past few years. But I see that flag there and just hope they’ve got something that can keep them happy in football there."
I cracked after that Chesterfield home game. I couldn't do it anymore, the 24/7 negativity was getting to me & I decided it was my last season. But it's gone full circle since then. Of course niggly doubts remain but at long last it's fun again so you're stuck with me, sorry!
The paper is finished and so is another season. It's harder work than ever before but it will never stop being a privilege reporting on my hometown club. Thank you for all the interaction throughout the season, it means an awful lot.
Just a polite reminder it is now just me on sport & there's only so much I can do. I'm going above & beyond my hours & I've worked eight hours today on my 'day off'. I don't want any sympathy but just explaining. Yes I'd like to cover your club & story but I can't do it all.
I've been numb since hearing this yesterday and kept hoping it wasn't true. A great player and a no nonsense character who had a great sense of humour. Only player I know to turn up for the Christmas hospital visit dressed as Santa. Saw him a few months ago and it's just so sad.
Humphrys: "That was for everyone in Southend. It’s not my goal, it’s everyone’s goal. It’s the manager, the players, the chef, the cleaners, the fans. It’s Southend United’s winning goal and we deserve it."
After only having Christmas Day off work for the past two years, it's time for a much needed break.
If anything signings wise happens I'll be back on but I'm now not back at work until July 5th.
Take care everyone :)
Maher: "You’ve got to earn the right to play for this club. It’s not the other way round. Players aren’t doing us a favour. They’re the lucky ones who get to pull on a shirt. We’ve got to remember that. This is a good club, it’s a proper club."
Hard not to get excited by the impending takeover. Genuinely think the never ending doom and gloom for the past few years and the subsequent fall outs have been a big factor in my mental health issues. Here's to a bright future for us all!
That's work finished for today, this weekend and the season. It's been my toughest ever for so many reasons but thanks for all your feedback and support. Just seen I've written 1, 732 stories on Blues this season so in need of a rest. But hope to see you all again next year.
The Southend United performance and the effort of the players deserves so much praise but it shouldn't be coming to this. It must not be allowed to paper over what the club has been allowed to become. It's disgusting and needs sorting. This just cannot continue.
Merry Christmas everyone. Thanks for all your interaction and support. It means more than you’ll ever know. Have a great day and here’s to three points tomorrow ⚽️ 🎄 🎅
Remembering Chris Barker on what would've been his birthday. This picture makes me so sad. It's the last time I saw him and it's him saying hello to me.
We are still in talks to hold a game in his memory and hope to have the date confirmed in the next few days.
Before the start of every season Michael Timlin would ask for a list of the new youth team players. He would learn who they all were and introduce himself. Always thought that was a really nice touch.
Twenty-five years ago Alvin Martin signed Kevin Maher for Southend United.
Today Kevin Maher signed David Martin, Alvin's son, for the Shrimpers.
Funny old game football!
Pleased that those already at the club have been rewarded first. Incredible they played up until now without a proper contract. Whatever happens from here the loyalty shown by the current group of players shouldn’t be forgotten.
I know tensions have been high and some have criticised my lack of tweets but I've only wanted to provide concrete details of what's happening. Yes I've heard rumours & speculation but this means so much to people I don't think it's fair to repeat them without being sure.
As one person, there is also only so much I can do. I go way above and beyond to give my best as it means so much to me but there is a limit to what I can cover and write. I can't to do everything, sorry.
Last night showed just how superb Blues' support has been this season.
Blues hadn't won at home all season and got 6,605 against Lincoln.
Peterborough are flying and last night got 5, 036.
Nothing against Peterborough just think Blues fans deserve some credit.
