I am thrilled to announce that I will be joining Northwestern University
@NorthwesternU
as an Assistant Professor
@NUChemistry
in January 2022!
Many thanks to my mentors, colleagues, families, and friends for the constant support.
I'm looking for a postdoc in synthetic organic electrochemistry or transition metal catalysis to join the Malapit Lab at Northwestern
@NUChemistry
in Spring 2022!
Check out our NEW website for details:
I'd appreciate your retweets

@MinteerLab
@Sigman_Lab
,
@curious_grad
Neurock, White grps
@NSF_CSOE

I dedicate this work to my mom, who, 20 years ago, I help carry & wash our laundry in a river 2 km from home. Today, I have to tell her of this achievement and how much it means to me. I hope she’s proud!
Also many thanks to my female scientist mentors, Melanie and Amy!
I did two postdocs.
After 2 years of PD1, I applied to 40 positions (1 interview, 0 offer). Thought of industry but PhD & PD advisors said I am meant to be in academia!
Jobless for 3+mon coz of visa delay.
After 9 months of PD2, I applied to 19 positions, 10 interviews, 9 offers.
Questions for PIs: how many applications did you go through before getting your position? How many failed interviews or rejected positions? Did you apply after 2 postdocs, 1 or none? Finally, if you had multiple options in good locations, why did you choose it?

I’m very excited to share our recent review on “metallaelectrocatalysis”

We’re extremely excited to welcome Dr. Eva Alvarez as the newest postdoc in the Malapit lab
@NUChemistry
. Eva defended her PhD yesterday from the labs of Prof Tobias Ritter
@ritter_lab
at the Max Planck Institute and we’re glad to be part of the celebration.
As a Filipino who worked hard to provide my parents their ‘American dream’, I now fully understand why they decided to return back home for good (giving up their green cards) because they feel safer in a third world country over this country many us call great!

Celebrating 20 years of remarkable scientific excellence, mentorship, and development of visionary trailblazers.
Cheers to Sanford Lab’s 20 years!
Congratulations, Melanie!
Bob Grubbs told me I’m the luckiest postdoc in the world after telling him I work with
@Sanford_Lab
. He was right about that! It was a pleasure to meet him over lunch 2.5 years ago. Truly a giant in science, a role model, and inspiration to many. RIP academic grandpa.
The Division is saddened to report the passing of Robert Grubbs. The outpouring of memories being shared is a testament to his profound impact and influence as a professor, mentor, colleague & friend -- not only in the chemistry community, but beyond.
He will be greatly missed.
This week on the pod we chatted with the lovely and inspiring
