If a potential guest asks you
“Can you discount the price? I’ll book if you can.”
Appropriate answers are:
“Hi _, we don’t discount”
“Hi _, we can’t. Another home may be better for you”
“Hi _, we don't. Another customer will book at this price”
Don't discount.
Agree or no?
@BryceWGarcia
I never discount, but I’m usually willing to add value. “We don’t discount our prices, but if you book today I’ll make sure we have a nice charcuterie board waiting for you and your family”
People don’t care about the discount, they care about feeling like they won
@BryceWGarcia
It depends.
I generally don't discount. Especially if its just a "can I have a discount?"
On occasion we'll have a couple orphan nights and somebody will say "can you do $250, if not its okay!"
I'll knock the $25 off & book them immediately. I get a thrilled guest maybe kharma
@BryceWGarcia
i agree passionately with dont discount. i think the framing in your responses could be stronger so as to win the business not just to say no.
@BryceWGarcia
Don’t. Qualify people out in my opinion. The type of person who wants a discount/break is going to be a pain in the ass all the way to the end. We reduced our minimum for an investor once so he could get in. Most work for the least amount of money.

Pretty easy to draw a line in the sand when you have high demand.
Now, let's pretend that the shoe is on the other foot. Demand drops and you have more vacancies than you are comfortable having. Then you have a decision to make.
Hardlines eventually soften!
