Love this. British Land was building this development - due to be called Drake Circus Leisure. Everyone in Plymouth just called it The Barcode so British Land just gave up and opened it with that name instead

Waitrose in WGC. The only branch to have hosted gigs by Led Zeppelin & The Who. Formerly The Cherry Tree owned by Whitbread. Built in 1935, converted to Waitrose in 1990.

Seen a few comments referring to Amazon as some sort of exogenous surprise ‘thing’ that happened to the UK high street, akin to a meteorite wiping out the dinosaurs. UK retailers had the same access to the same internet as Bezos and were able to see what he was doing
