So, just so I understand. People must cycle from Delft, Lanka, Khaya etc, with their children at 4am to get to school and then work in the inner city? In CT weather? Plus we will be fishing people out of the Atlantic thanks to the wind but ok.
As Capetonians struggle with ongoing taxi violence in the province, leaving thousands of commuters stranded,
an NPO based in the mother city is lobbying to make Cape Town more bike-friendly.

Never mind my husband carrying my 83 year old father in law on his shoulders to go to the doctor. And getting to the vet with one GSD and a cat who hates being held.

This conversation is poorly phrased. It has to be integrated with other forms of public transport. I visited Colombia's capital where people cycled from home to bike parks, buses (their version of BRT) then take these commuters all over the capital. It worked well.
@MayleenVincent
It works well elsewhere because you don't get robbed, killed, raped and what not along the way. When we travel we cycle everywhere. I'd never dare do that here. I'd arrive dead.
@BhavMaharaj
Bike lanes in most South African cities are unrealistic and a waste of money because of the countryβs problematic historical spatial planning. Unless you address that, and provide affordable housing close to where people work, you are just wasting money.
@BhavMaharaj
Cycling is not for everyone obviously, some common sense is needed! Europe is small, hence success of cycling, people who live close to places of work abd school could well do it. Can't people think?

@BhavMaharaj
It can't be just bicycles. People urgently need to be moved closer to the city. And then the locations should be bulldozed.
