So look forward to the day when English politicians govern their own country but have no say whatsoever over any section of ours. I really think that is the crux of our problems in Ireland 🇮🇪 in 2022. Irish national self-determination is crucial. Sooner a referendum the better.
My name is Barry McElduff. I am a Sinn Féin Councillor in Ireland. I am appalled by the silence regarding war crimes committed by the Israeli government.
I demand a ceasefire, open humanitarian corridors. Facilitate for water, food & medicine to Gaza now!

Shocking and unacceptable that once again people from Tyrone, Fermanagh, Antrim, Down, Armagh and Derry are not eligible to enter
@rte
‘Up for the Match’ comórtas. The night before the All Ireland Hurling Final, too.
It is my opinion that these two leaders did the heaviest lifting in the Irish peace process. Others played their part of course. This may be subjective. I am not neutral. But I say this based on what I witnessed in the 1980s and 1990s.
No matter how often the BBC repeats it to itself, the Six Counties do not constitute a ‘nation.’ They amount to two thirds of a province. Nothing more. Nothing less.
Today is 8th May, 33rd anniversary of 9 Irishmen, including 8 Volunteers murdered by British Army at Loughgall. We remember them all with with grá and with great pride. These men were precious to their families, friends and communities. I measc laochra na nGael go raibh siad.
Ireland set to be named highest ranking national rugby team on the planet ! The best in the world. Our potential is limitless when we unite as one: North, South, East and West.

100 years ago today, Dublin Castle was handed over to the Free State government. To the government of 26 of Ireland’s 🇮🇪 32 Counties. The 6 Counties have remained under British Rule since then. It will be great when, in the future, we finally secure Ireland’s independence.

BBC asks which is more important: funding the health service or the Irish language ? BBC does not ask: which is more important, funding the health service or the British Royal Family ?
People commenting variously on heroic acts during war. When it comes to courage and self-sacrifice in just cause, need look no further than our own Bobby Sands and our other hunger strikers down through the ages. Day 1 of Bobby’s hunger strike 41 years ago this Tuesday 1 March.
Might be repeating myself a bit but RTÉ News just said there now: ‘throughout Ireland and Northern Ireland’.
Imagine saying, ‘throughout Ireland and Southern Ireland’.
No harm but one word covers it all: Ireland.
There will be differing views and narratives on the partition of Ireland. I remember meeting a doctor from Sierra Leone once, on a train from Philadelphia to New York. He told me, ‘if you see two fish fighting in a pond, you know the British government was there beforehand’.

Don’t think so. Bring it on. Ask the people. Hold the referendum. Think it was Brendan Behan, while representing National Union of Journalists (NUJ) who once described
@IrishTimes
as the National Journal of Unionists.
Ireland is referred to a lot these days as ‘the island’. Still Ireland to many. We know it’s an island. But it is also Ireland. Sometimes you hear the phrase ‘Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland’. Many of us can save you five words and rectify that contrivance to ‘Ireland’.
Michaela was a very special person. My ongoing sympathy goes to John, to her parents , to her brothers, to her wider family and to all her friends this weekend of her tenth anniversary.
Comhbhrón ón chroí.
Today’s geoblocking of Ireland v Wales in rugby & of Kerry v Dublin this evening not acceptable. Our Council (FODC) agreed unanimously this week to support my proposal seeking end to this nonsense. We have written formally to a) RTÉ, b) Sky, c) Irish Government, d) GAA & e) IRFU.
I don’t think anyone should be called ‘Lord’. This man’s first name is Jonathon, I believe. Jonathon Caine. An English Conservative who warns the Irish government that there will be ‘consequences’ if they stand up for Irish people. He comes across as a relic of England’s empire.
On May 8th, 1987, eight Volunteers and loved family men lost their lives in a planned British Army / RUC ambush. Anthony Hughes also killed and his brother Oliver seriously injured. Sorely missed each and everyone of them.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a n-anamacha uaisle.
The sooner that Simon Harris vacates the Taoiseach’s office, the better for us all. No ambition for his own country. No sense of Ireland’s people. No clue.
40 years ago, Martin Hurson was nearing the end. In Tyrone, in Longford, all over Ireland & in all corners of the world, Martin and his fellow hunger strikers are remembered with great pride. Their sacrifice had the same effect on many of us as 1916 did on previous generations.
Was at Queens University same time as Mairead Farrell. She was great person. When the British Army murdered Mairead, Dan & Sean in Gibraltar, we asked QUB authorities to lower the University Flag in recognition of Mairead’s death. They declined so we did it ourselves.

Would like
@RTELateLateShow
to interview some people associated with delivering Tyrone’s 4th All Ireland. Wonder if this has crossed any of the producers’ minds ?
I was one of 12 (I think) people prosecuted for taking part in 1985 Easter Rising Commemoration in Carrickmore. A dozen of us picked out from thousands who attended. I missed my Politics tutorial at QUB because of court appearance. Tutor was thrilled and wanted to tell my class.
The despicable and beyond cruel way that the Israeli Army treats the people of Palestine is one of the scandals of our time.

Thinking of families and friends of the nine men, eight Volunteers, killed at Loughgall by British Army 35 years ago today. Is beannaithe iad a fuair bás ar son saoirse na hÉireann.
Thoughts & paidreacha with Mickey Coleman & his family. A proud Ardboe man & a multi-talented son of Tyrone with a great personality. Hugely popular person in New York and USA where Mickey is currently in hospital. Entertained us all online during lockdown with music and song.
In any root and branch review of RTÉ, it must become a truly national public service platform. End exclusion and ‘othering’ of people from the Six Counties. We must be treated as an integral part of the nation.
In a few hours’ time, it will be the 42nd anniversary of the death on hunger strike of Martin Hurson. People all over Ireland and from Tyrone to Toronto will always remember Martin with great grá and with great pride.

Full credit to the Tipperary players laying their wreath in honour of Michael Hogan and the other victims of Bloody Sunday 100 years ago. Very poignant.

Annie Moore from Ireland was just 15 years old when she emigrated. On her own. Thousands of miles from home. How harrowing was her experience. Our Niamh recounts in song...
Let this nonsense end with immediate effect. Any notion that the express pursuit of a United Ireland 🇮🇪 is ‘untimely’, ‘unhelpful’, ‘insensitive’.
Sooner the better for everyone. Let us plan for it now.
The sheer gaslighting gall of the Israelis to ‘summon’ the Irish Ambassador. It is long since time that the Israeli Ambassador in Ireland be expelled and our own representative recalled home.
To the minute. 40 years ago. A few hours later, we would all learn the awful news. My Mother woke us up. I can still hear her say: ‘Bobby Sands died during the night’ The world was changed for all of us. We assembled in our groups. Thinking of Bobby’s family at this time.

It is a very exciting project when you think about it. Shaping and designing a United Ireland for the benefit of all our people, a small country of 7 million people. Everyone’s voice needs to be heard. #ÉireAontaithe
40 years ago, Bobby Sands was about to embark on hunger strike, ‘standing on the threshold of another trembling world’. As a 14 year old, I remember hearing this on Downtown News. And us, a group of Carrickmore lads playing pool in the Old School, being worried for him.

The government in Dublin needs to do more to assert Irish fishing rights around Rockall. As the Wolfe Tones song goes: ‘This rock is part of Ireland, For it's written in folklore’.
Liz Truss has stepped down, I hear. Hopefully the next British Prime Minister will be the last one to have any influence over Irish affairs.

I can fix it for Emma: we would like the North’s position to be restored within an All Ireland. A new, united and independent Ireland. Partition has been a disaster. Put it to the people.
No harm to Vodafone ... but Dublin is not abroad for me. Please stop texting me customer feedback questions based on presumption that I have been ‘abroad’ every time I return from my capital city !
Today we accompanied Uncle Jack on his final journey from Coolaney, County Sligo to Loughmacrory in his native Tyrone. A truly unique individual who was actively committed to the cause of Irish Republicanism his whole life.

Ireland’s population now approaching 5 million. More people living, working and raising families in Ireland than at any point since independence. Our people are our greatest strength.
