dick looks so small in the doorway and he's holding a stuffed monkey and shuffling his feet. they both kind of stare at each other for a good minute before dick just mumbles out that his room was too big and dark and so bruce sort of. awkwardly pats the side of the bed.

and dick DARTS OVER SO FAST. because he remembers cuddling between his parents whenever he had nightmares and he Misses it so the second bruce offers he doesn't even think. and of course its different. there's at least two feet between them & bruce looks as stiff as a board but.

but as dick falls asleep he can hear bruce breathing. he can feel the way the mattress moves & its not so quiet anymore. both of them sleep the best they have in a long time. alfred makes sure to take a picture when he finds them starfished together in the morning.

percy jackson is a children's media aimed for middle schoolers (10-14). however, as the book has grown up, a lot of its audience has too ! thats just how aging works. however, the characters (although they have grown) are still kids.
