The Giants' first-round picks since 2010 have accumulated a total of 10.8 WAR for their careers and 5.4 came from Joe Panik. The Dodgers' first-rounders since 2010 have accumulated 68.5 WAR.
The Giants are in a spot where they have to spend to get better but they can't spend on who they want because they've spent the past two seasons not getting better.
The Giants have been told they’re out of the bidding for Yoshinobu Yamamoto, per source familiar with discussions. They pushed hard but expectation is that he will end up in LA or NY.

Meanwhile, the Giants 1st round picks from 2006-2009, alone, (Lincecum, Bumgarner, Posey, and Wheeler) accumulated 131 WAR. 1st rounders aren't everything, of course, and Logan Webb did account for 14.4 WAR out of the 4th round, but still.. consistently not hitting on picks hurts

Fantastic point. I don't know why people are saying to go back to pre-2010. The minor leagues have not developed and FO has not drafted talent since 2010. Period. Hoping they don't miss a window to trade any assets they have now.

The Giants' inability to develop MLB-quality players from within is a dirty little secret that the media won't touch. And yet, IMO it's a much bigger problem than chasing FAs who don't want to play here.
