I was just laid off from thoughtspot.
If any of you have any interest in working with me or know of opportunities hiring immediately for a solutions engineer or in the data and analytics space, I would be abundantly grateful. ❤️

Happy to announce that I will be starting on May 8th as a Data Advocate for
@shipyardapp
- a data orchestration company.
Thank you to everyone for your support. 😊
Get laid off ✅️
Go get ice cream ✅️
Enjoy the sunshine ✅️
The outpouring of support means more than you know. I'll bounce back, eventually. I've roughed it under worse conditions. For today, self care. ❤️ ☀️
Having someone explain something to you in a way that is unintimidating is underrated. Explanations should inspire you, not make you feel stupid. The real intelligence flex isn't to intentionally obfuscate, but to clarify.
I stumbled upon this very thorough series explaining transformers and LLMs. There's a history, tokenization, embeddings, and code examples in Phython. If you're tired (as I am) of learning bits and pieces from disparate sources, this is great.
Dashboarding analysts are like the minimum wage workers of the data space- people poke fun at their skill level, but get irate when they do upskill and there's not enough of them left wanting to do the work that the end users most regularly consume.
This whole finding a job thing is really tough. I hope all of the time I'm spending upskilling pays off. But after days like today, it's hard to stay optimistic. Gutted by a rejection.
I now feel confident in saying I know SQL, command line, some git, and some python, at least.
Once at a prior job I did manual data entry in an excel file for a month 😬 It was the only way.
That excel file got written to the db (dim table). I'm fairly certain it's an important table used by...maybe every department report?
Real world data work is not always glamorous.
If I make a trip to Seattle by car, who all is along the way from NorCal that I should pay a visit to?
Maybe make a little PacNW data twitter gathering out of it idk.

I have career coaching for 2 mo. as part of my layoff, and was told today "your linkedin is beautiful - no notes"
Self promotion is gross for me, but if you're looking to improve your linkedin, check out my profile if that is helpful to you. I'm easy to find: Arynn Martin-Post
Empathy is (my guess) a predictor of whether or not you go the analyst or the engineer data career route.
Unless you're a DBA. Then you might actually have negative empathy. Just pure smoldering hatred for anyone who even thinks about write access.
🥲🥺
Don't take my word for it, I loved building a sense of team and bringing my passion to work with me wether it was in person or zoom. I'm going to miss them all (and ThoughtSpot) so much.
I'm so excited to share my 1st blog post of a new series at

- Simplifying Data Orchestration!
Here's my no-nonsesne guide on *WHY* data orchestration exists.
Let's simplify together! 😊🤸♀️
I just finished recording an episode for the Data Bytes Podcast, hosted by Sadie St. Lawrence, CEO of Women In Data!
It won't be out for another two weeks or so.
Special thanks to Sadie for recognizing that even if you're unemployed, you are still a woman in data ❤️
I just really wanna be a solutions engineer again, you know?
I love people. I love teaching, learning, and building relationships to help people make their work lives easier (and some memes and jokes along the way).
I work hard. I evangelize. I am kind, empathetic, creative,
I have an update! Thanks to my wonderful friend, we found my issue.
Because I have Jupyter installed on my local machine, when I launch Jupyter from a virtual environment, it still defaults to opening the jupyter from my local machine.
So any packages I've installed in the
Check out this thread for some excellent examples of SQL technical interview questions, the skills needed for them, and the difficulty level.
[Don't worry if this freaks out out, I'd fail his interview if I had to take it right now 😅]
I quit my job, and my last day was yesterday. I'm in the process of moving to NC, as well!
Anyone in that area or with remote opportunities in solutions engineering, now is your time. 😊
I'm going camping over the weekend to fully unplug and system reboot. I've found that time in nature does that for me better than anything. I'm looking forward to exiting this stage of shock/paralysis and getting into full job hunt mode when I get back. 🤟
Since we're here though...
Look - dbt was a really good idea that solved a problem. Even if you ignore influencers and other marketing, a following grew because dbt assuaged a visceral pain.
But (there's always a but) - there were seeds planted for problems that grew like…
I've let my grief settle for a little over a week now. So here goes. My endometriosis is only one part of the story.
A few weeks ago I had a massive increase in pain and went to urgent care. MUCH to my surprise, I found out I was 4 weeks pregnant! This was after years of…
#DBT
(not the data one) tip of the day
The "dialectic" in DBT references that two opposing things can both be true at the same time. This is a great example of that. 💫
For Christmas 3 years ago, I was on unpaid leave and trying my best to avoid medical debt. There were no presents. Instead, I went to a lights show on a foggy night. It was magical. Even smal things can bring joy and make the season merry. I'll never forget this. Love you all❤️
After some discussion with some of you on here recently...
Told my manager today that I am interested in mgmt/leadership at current company. I wish I had a better way to express it's not just another "thing I'm interested in". My adhd brain preceeds me.
There's simply too much to learn and too many resources to do so. I get overwhelmed just trying to figure out where to start. Then, my brain spins on that feeling of overwhelm until exhausted. Sleep. Wake up. Repeat. If I can break this cycle I'll be unstoppable. Big if.
Wow! 😭
Did not expect to come back and find such an outpouring of support and kindness!
I have new hope that my eclectic experiences, uses, and perspectives of data could be of value.
IO Psych -> consultant ->

Let's go. ✌️
I cannot tell you how good it feels to be in a place where not a single conversation is about OpenAI or Grok or LLMs or query optimization.
I grew up in a small town in a farming/dairy area. I'm glad I can still blend.
As I drive across the country, I'm reminded that the big
It's 2am. Pyenv, python, pipx, and poetry have been installed. I shall return to keeping my "woe is me" tweets limited to my twitter circle. But for now, thanks for the crowdsourced help in getting me set up!
When some has a problem, it's important to ask - do you want solutions or comfort?
Me, a *solutions* engineer: Let's figure out how we can solve your data problem. 💫
Me, a *comfort* engineer: Just because your data is bad doesn't mean that YOU are bad. 💜
I want a thesaurus for
#data
terms.
So many analyses and tools have different names actually mean/do the same or a similar thing.
This is not a joke. I want this.
