@Anthony_Bonato I'd appreciate if OP could expound on this a little more. In what sense is it a luxury? Also, pure mathematics, applied mathematics or mathematics as a whole? This is too ambiguous a statement to really come down one way or the other without further information

@Anthony_Bonato Being good at math while also genuinely being able to develop an appreciation for it hinges on a knowledgeable teacher, a comfortable situation at home, having opportunities to further your mathematical education AND having a like-minded peer group who also have all of the above

@Anthony_Bonato Someone says that mathematics is the luxury of mind. In mathematics you can think of unthinkable things without worrying about consequences. My favorite one is Cantor Sets which contains uncountable elements still it's measure is zero.
