As a parent I just watched my kid sit on the bench for 3 straight games today.
What an awesome opportunity to evaluate for me as a parent & my child as a player.
It’s my job as a parent to teach my child how to deal with that & to help my child learn how to get off the bench.
I don’t know one successful person who leaves their cart in the middle of the parking lot.
If you are too big to do the small things, you’re too small to do the big things.
Players:
Don’t big-time small college coaches during your recruitment because these are the schools you are going to be transferring to after you get cut in the fall your freshman year or when you can’t get on the field in the spring.
You’re welcome.
So you signed your NLI… Well done.
Now, get ready to compete w/ 22 year old grown men next fall.
Time to get prepared. Time to get strong in weight room.
You only get one chance to make a first impression.
It’s hard to get on a college team, but it’s harder to stay there.
Mike Piazza was the 1390th pick, Smoltz was the 574 pick, Sandberg was the 511 pick, Thome was the 333 pick & Nolan Ryan was the 226 pick which tells me sometimes people assessing your future potential on past performance don’t know shit.
Unapologetically chase your dreams!
Uncommitted 2019 Players: Instead of just being upset you aren’t committed yet, try emailing college coaches & let them know you are interested in their program. Tell them why you can help them win games. Give them your schedule. List references. Include academics. Send video.

Players: Stop asking yourself how do I get recruited and start asking yourself, how do I get really good?
I’ve never met a really good high school player having trouble finding a place to play in college.
Some advantages of Jr College baseball:
- Cost
- Development: academically, physically, socially & skill-wise
- Greater potential to play right away
- Lots of 4-yr schools fill immediate needs with JC players
- Draft eligible after each season
- Unlimited practice calendar
A shark in a fish tank will only grow 8 inches, but a shark in the ocean will grow 8 feet. The shark will never outgrow its environment and the same is true about YOU. You can’t grow by hanging around small-minded people. Change your environment and watch your growth.
⚾️ When your son boots a ball at SS and the pitcher’s dad yells out, “C’mon back the pitcher up guys!”
🤔 Nobody said shit when your boy walked the bases loaded…
Dear 8U-14U Dad Coach -
I challenge you to give up control & not coach your son’s team for at least a full year & watch him grow as a player/kid.
You won’t get to pick the position he plays or where he hits in the lineup. You’ll be surprised how he’ll respond to the challenge.

The average teen in the USA spends over 7 hours per day of screen time. That’s over 2500 hours in a year.
What if you spent that time focusing on improving yourself & your athletic skills?
And you say you want to play College or Professional baseball?
#Priorities
Players:
You have plenty of time to get better.
168 hours per week
Sleep 56 hours per week
School 35 hours per week
You have 77 hours left each week to practice your sport, train your body, train your mind and eat healthy meals.
Stop wasting time & start crushing goals!
I don’t get it…
Always one of the oddest things I see at a baseball game is when a hitter takes a fastball down the middle first pitch and then nods his head repeatedly.
WTF does that mean?
Every AM a gazelle wakes up & knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every AM a lion wakes up & it knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death. It doesn’t matter if you are a lion or gazelle when the sun comes up you better be running.
I’ve recruited kids for 20 years. I am seeing an upward trend of players/parents wanting to be
#guaranteed
things like where they will hit in order, what pos they will play, % of inns they will play at desired pos, etc.
NEVER heard that from 2001-2018. Now it’s common practice.
To all the ⚾️ players that complain about the heat during games…
- It isn’t 120 degrees
- You aren’t 5,000 miles from home.
- You aren’t wearing fatigues carrying 70 lbs of gear.
- There is very little chance you drive over a 💣 today.
Thank you to all that serve USA! 🇺🇸
When you’re 20 you care what everyone thinks, when you’re 40 you stop caring what everyone thinks and when you’re 60 you realize no one was ever thinking about you in the first place.
NO ONE CARES. Live your life the way you want to live it.
Parents -
I’ve never seen a situation where parents yelling at umpires from the stands helps your team.
You may think you are helping but you are doing nothing but hurting your team.
My advice is let your coaches do their job.
Stay positive and enjoy watching the game.
It’s become fascinating to observe what has become “cool” today: social media attention, player rankings, bat flips, posting pics of free apparel on hotel beds, etc.
You know what was really cool when I was growing up?
WINNING.
⚾️ You: “I really wanna go to LSU.”
⚾️ Your HS Coach: “LSU doesn’t really recruit high schoolers that throw 78 mph but they do have a camp coming up.”
⚾️ You:
Mike Piazza was the 1390 pick of draft, Smoltz was 574 pick, Sandberg was 511 pick, Thome was 333 pick & Nolan Ryan was 226 pick which tells me sometimes people assessing your future potential on past performance (in anything) don't
know shit.
Unapologetically chase your dreams!
A kid from a developing country is passing you by practicing w/ a hand-made bat & old glove, chasing one baseball around a field w/ no bases.
Meanwhile, you have access to named brand equipment, next level training systems & facilities but you’d rather stare at your cell phone.
I don’t know who’s is dumber... the travel coach who actually tells a player what round they can get a kid drafted in, or the player/family that believes it.
Players -
Mid-July.. Feeling tired & weak?
Here’s why:
1) You lifted weights in winter but haven’t lifted since. Can’t maintain strength by do nothing.
2) You are losing weight b/c you aren’t eating enough calories to support demands on your body by being on field everyday.
Players: Don’t get caught up so much in the number after the D when it comes to college baseball opportunities. Many small colleges are as good or better than some D1’s in every region.
Think back and appreciate how much your parents sacrifice for you. Countless hours toting you around to activities and spending an absorbent amount of money to provide you unforgettable opportunities.
Your parents love you. Show them you do too.
Young people -
You will find out quickly when you leave home:
- You aren’t special
- You don’t get things just b/c you want them
- You get nothing for coming in last place
- Your parents can’t help you get a promotion
There are no participation trophies in the real world.
Everybody wants to play College Baseball.
Ask yourself:
* How are you going to standout?
* What are you willing to sacrifice to get there?
* What do you do that can help a college team win?

Players:
You want to play College or Professional baseball, right? If so, ask yourself: What makes you standout on the field? What makes you more valuable than your peers? Without clear answers, why would anyone want to sign or draft you then?
Never forget 3 types of people in your life:
1) Those who helped you in difficult times.
2) Those who left you in difficult times.
3) Those who put you in difficult times.
Youth Parents:
Baseball is uncontrollable. You can’t help your son get a hit or throw a strike. Its natural to want to protect your son & try to control the environment.
BASEBALL & LIFE are hard but kids need to struggle so they can develop coping skills when things gets tough.
Parents: Instead of telling people how great your kid is let him show people how great he is.
If you think he “deserves” something, let him earn it.

You won’t be 15, 17, 19, 21 years old forever. You have the opportunity right now to change the course of your life if you just put in the work.
Everybody wants to play college baseball.
Understand, you have lots of competition to get there.
Ask yourself:
- How do you stand out?
- What do you actually do that would make a college coach think you can help him win?
- What are you willing to sacrifice to get there?
Dear All Cool Athletes,
Please don’t big-time kids at your school because I have news for you, a good portion of them will be more successful than you. Be kind and develop your network for the future.
You’re welcome.

🇺🇸 THANK YOU to all that serve!
Players/Parents - With this news its more important now than ever to be playing w/ a program who actually have relationships w/ college coaches and a strong history of helping players move on to the next level.
College coaches will rely on the people they trust this summer.
