hi agents and editors,
#dvpit
is on Oct 11 on discord. head to dvpit dot com to learn how to participate. look out for hashtags like BIPOC and don't you dare use the words "couldn't connect" if you reject any people of color you request material from
All right, fuck it. I wasn't going to do this on main but this just kicked me over the edge.
I've spent the last year recording every english language fiction deal in Publisher's Marketplace, googling over 4000 authors, and this is what the current book deal landscape looks like

Discord pitch events are a thing now? That sounds way more easy to manage than doing it on Twitter. Really hope DVPit helps a lot of good authors finally get their shine.
@AmandaWoody_
I will add that BIPOC isn't on the list of hashtags. They're more specific to race, for ex. Black writers will use BVM - Blalx voices matter. I suggest agents check the list of hashtags on the DVPit site/discord π hope to see more major change
@AmandaWoody_
Nearly all my rejections on Full is : "can't connect" π« π° though they praise the voice/international setting/culture/characters. They even enjoy the read π
@AmandaWoody_
Must "couldn't connect" have a particular undercurrent? Like, if someone wants to represent more (e.g.) writers from South-East Asia, they won't necessarily connect with ANY/EVERY writer from that background/their characters? Isn't it homogenising to suggest otherwise?
@AmandaWoody_
Failure to connect shouldn't be a reason for rejecting a story
I never connected with the entitled crybaby that's Dr. Strange or, say, the sexist ones that populate GRRM's fiction, yet, I love those stories...
