Basically it's about finding stories in data. Here's a great example by my very smart colleague

. She thought there might be an uptick in vasectomies after Dobbs, but the data proved it (and check out the annual March Madness spike too!)
Wow, a lot more vasectomies in the US after the Dobbs ruling. You could say it made a... vas deferens
