There's been a lot of focus (and rightfully so) in recent days on the misguided decision to remove History as a core Junior Cert subject. But there also needs to be a similar focus on Geography and pressure to also restore it as a core JC subject #WhereIsYourPlace #Environment

Just over the last hour, or even last few minutes, it's starting to feel as if this thing is edging finally towards Biden... even if he wins by a narrow 270-268 margin in the EC I think it looks as if he might have enough to win Nevada, Michigan and Wisconsin. If so, that's that

As of now, with Biden ahead in Nevada, Wisconsin and Michigan, and with the remaining votes to be counted (mainly absentee) likely to favour him in these states and in Pennsylvania, it looks like he might win the Electoral College on a 290-248 margin #Elections2020

The shortest gap between general elections occurred in 1927, with 98 days between the elections on 9 June and 15 September, with the political landscape after the June election not being totally dissimilar to the present situation... #GE2020 #GE20202

If Ireland used an Electoral College system similar to the USA, where would our swing states...er, sorry, swing counties be clustered? The suburban counties (Meath, Louth, Kildare, Wicklow)? The Midlands? Would Louth be Ireland's Pennsylvania? Would Wexford be Ireland's Florida?

A much higher number of candidates won seats on the basis of vote transfers at #GE2020 than in previous general elections across the 2000s These are candidates who were not in seat positions on First Count, but were edged ahead of higher placed candidates thanks to vote transfers

As of now, I'm getting near the end of a 13-month long process of updating Local Elections 2019 candidate selection/nomination details, as and when i got them. Still trying to get final details for a handful of Councils. As of now, have found/identified 1,957 candidates... #LE19

In the early weeks of the first COVID lockdown I got much more into walking and set myself the task of walking at least 6,000 steps a day. Since April 22 2020 I've managed to keep to the target and, 11,040.38km of walking later, I managed to hit Day 1,000 today #1000daysofwalking

As an electoral geographer, I do appreciate when candidates/political parties make good use of maps in local newspaper ads/campaign literature, whether for the purposes of vote management or to hike up their local vote in a particular area These are some #GE2020 examples I found

As of now, it looks as if Joe Biden might secure the US presidency, albeit with potentially a wafer thin Electoral College winning margin If Biden wins, he will be the first candidate since John F Kennedy in 1960 to win a presidential election despite losing in Ohio and Florida

Although the #Eurovision Song Contest didn't take place this year, so far there have been close to 100 million streams of the 41 songs that were selected to compete in this year's contest. The Italian entry🇮🇹, Fai Rumore (Diodato), accounts for almost one quarter of these (24.3%)

This means the next Constituency Commission report (to decide how many TDs in the next Dáil after a new report is made law) after an official Census takes place will have to assign at least 168 TDs across all of the constituencies in the Republic of Ireland, up from 160 as of now

Lynn Boylan has been clearly the most transfer friendly candidate, out of the remaining candidates, so far in the #DublinBaySouthByElection count, having picked up 534 transfer votes so far since Count 1 By contrast, Deidre Conroy has been struggling to pick up vote transfers...

Are you registered to vote? A new electoral register (for 2019) will come into force on 15th February 2019 and you have until 25th November 2018 to ensure that you're included in this and are eligible to vote in next year's local, European, referendum (?), general (?) elections.

Only three counties now have teams left in contention in both the #GAA Senior Hurling Championship and the Senior Football Championship; Dublin, Cork and Laois. Laois is by far the smallest of those three counties in population terms. Proud of my county 💙◻️ 💙◻️ 💙◻️
