𝐃𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐚: 𝐚 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐚𝐧 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲 is sited on the arid island of Khadir in Gujarat. Occupied between ca. 3000-1500 BCE, the archaeological site, one of the best preserved urban settlements from the period in Southeast Asia, comprises a fortified city & a cemetery.

On the shores of Bay of Bengal, bathed in rays of the rising sun, the temple at Konarak is a monumental representation of the sun god Surya's chariot.Built in the 13th century, the temple is attributed to Narasimhadeva I of Eastern Ganga Dynasty.

The site of Sanchi comprises a group of Buddhist monuments dating back to the 2nd and 1st centuries B.C. It is the oldest Buddhist sanctuary in existence and was a major Buddhist centre in India until the 12th century A.D.
Apart from the excavated remains, one of the most major find was the discovery of a buried Vishnu sculpture from the western part of the village. Subsequent excavations conducted around the image revealed it to be a life size image of Vishnu measuring about 2 meters in height.
The contribution of Padma Vibhushan Prof BB Lal in Archaeology is beyond measure. A doyen in his field, he devoted his entire 101-year life to the subject. He may be gone but his work lives on & will continue to teach & influence generations to come. Our homage to the great soul.
An ASI team covered nearly 170 sq km falling in the area of the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve over months-long exploration of the region which was undertook for the first time since 1938.

The time period of the findings covered the reigns of the kings Shri Bhimsena, Maharaja Pothasiri, Maharaja Bhattadeva. Places deciphered in the inscriptions are Kaushami, Mathura, Pavata (Parvata), Vejabharada and Sapatanaairikaa. (2/3)

Another interesting find is the small rectangular brick tank exposed near the inner lining of the curved brick structure. The available brick sizes (43 - 48 cms) are comparable with the Satavahana / Ikshvaku period structures in Krishna valley i.e. Amaravati and Nagarjunakonda.
Asoka inscription of Sahasaram (232 or 231 BCE) consists of eight lines in archaic Brahmi characters. A portion of the inscription is damaged. The inscriptions, probably contains a date referring to the death of Buddha; but no convincing interpretation of it has yet been found.
The most outstanding discovery is of massive sized brick enclosure wall at the southern part of the mound. This structure is of baked bricks and exposed to a length of more than 75 meters with an average width of about 3.40 meters, which rise to a height of nearly 2 meters.
A series of broken terracotta pipes fitted into one another revealed about the civic amenities maintained by the occupants of this site. The drainage system pattern is understood by the exposed remains of the drainage at the site.

Based on video clip circulated on social media, Police have caught 4 persons from Madhya Pradesh. The accused are in custody and have accepted the mistake. Police Investigation is underway.

. The Idol was stolen on 22nd August, 1961 from Nalanda Museum of ASI and had resurfaced at a trade fair in Britain.
The iconographical feature like the elaborate head gear, thick holy thread and decorative drapery dates the Vishnu idol to Pallava period (circa 8th cent. CE).
Interesting pottery finds are the base of conical jars placed at the eastern side of the structure. Such conical jars are widely distributed in Tamil Nadu and considered to be imitated variety of Roman Amphorae jars.
The two fortified townships within the gap of 15kms during early historic times indicates the significant strategic location was preferred by the early historic people for trade in the region keeping in view of proximity of the sea, River and Lake (Pulicat).

The findings of assorted stone tools of Palaeolithic and Neolithic periods from secondary contexts suggest that prehistoric people also occupied this area. Further studies are being carried out through geological, chemical analysis of the site/samples.

Explorations conducted in and around Gottiprolu within a radius of 15 kilometers revealed important vestiges viz., fortified early historic settlement at Puduru, Sunbrahmanya temple at Mallam, unique rock cut laterite stepped well at Yakasiri, Vishnu temple at Tirumuru.
These settlements could have been an important trade centre as indicated by the presence of imitated amphorae wares that were mostly used to transport liquid commodities.
Other major retrieved antiquities unearthed are copper and lead coins, iron spear head, stone celts, terracotta beads, ear stud in semi precious stone and hopscotches.
A momentous achievement for India as Santiniketan, West Bengal, has been officially inscribed on

Rani-ki-Vav, a stepwell situated in Patan, Gujarat was built as a memorial to King Bhima I by his Queen Udayamati, of 11th century Chaulukya dynasty. The stepwell was flooded by Saraswati river & silted over for centuries before getting rediscovered in 1940s.

The location of Dholavira in the island of Khadir was strategic to harness different mineral & raw materials (copper, shell, agate-carnelian, steatite, lead & others) & to facilitate internal as well as external trade to the Magan (modern Oman peninsula) & Mesopotamian regions.
Ancient Harappan city of Dholavira was discovered in 1968 & excavated for 13 field seasons between 1989 & 2005. The unearthed excavations were simultaneously preserved, conserved & display all physical attributes contributing to the Outstanding Universal Value of the property.

The image was stolen in 1999 & retrieved in the same year by Thanjavur police but was lying in Kumbakonam court. Now the image is returned to ASI by Hon'ble Kumbakonam court.
Thoughtful selection of materials in Rudreshwara Temple ranging from inventing light porous floating bricks to reduce load on foundation, to making of fine sculptures on hard dolerite stone & utilizing sand as a material for foundation, all represnt creative genius of engineering
