Britwres Twitter hasn't realised how bad the lineups for wrestling will be when promotions can start running again We know that:
* American or Japanese talent won't be available due to quaratine laws
* WWE UK talent be blocked from attending indie shows to protect tapings bubble
* UK/IRE wrestlers who compete for AEW, ROH and NJPW may have moved from d UK by then to restart their careers
* Australiasians who moved to the UK seem to be relocating back to Oz, due to shows running there
* Indie wrestlers are quitely walking away due to the scandals/hassle
* Social Distancing in the venue, VOD services being in
deep freeze for a year and overall weakened financial position (drawing down savings/losing access to credit) will reduce the budget to pay for the available talent
People will say the scene came from a lower ebb when the recent Britwres boom began but that ignores that fans have grown used to blockbuster shows and that there were X factors (easy access to US indie stars, golden generation of local talent) which today's scene doesn't have
@willcooling
It’s a chance for the next crop to come through and create a name. All of this just equals opportunity for those who are just as good and ready for more exposure. As with most independent wrestling just takes fans to take a chance.
@jetta_wrestle
I think that's true but obviously it would be a lot easier and quicker to do that if the marque talent was still around to pass the torch. Which most likely won't be the case. So I think whatever the long-term future holds, britwres is going to enter a period of contraction
@willcooling
There's also the matter of NXT:UK signing anyone with a crumb of potential before they're even established as seen with Dani Luna, A-Kid, Valkyrie and Pretty Deadly.
@willcooling
It may well be that we see talented but underbooked local names seize the opportunity, but you need the variety of exotic big names appearing for guest appearances otherwise it's just the same names on every show - fine for the 1st show back, but 6-12 months later...?
@willcooling
Surely this isn't controversial? It isn't that there isn't talent, hardworkers or promising talent, it's just a lack of drawing power. Britwres has drawn huge crowds in the past 5 years because of the talent above, without this talent, interest will drop and income drops.
@willcooling
BritWres is more than strong enough to deal with all the problems you have listed. The depth of talent in the UK has never been as deep as it is today
@willcooling
Ticket price and we'll play clear factor for me as you can't charge the same for shows that you were a year ago when a year ago you had on bigger names more recognisable names the pricing structure will need to change for a while until it can be built back up to previous level
@willcooling
Line ups will only be bad if people only care about seeing 'big names' on their wrestling card
There's plenty of talent for indie shows to still be stacked without any international or NXT UK talent
@willcooling
Here’s a task for people... if you take all of Will’s criteria for talent in the UK scene for the foreseeable future, what would be the best singles match to draw the biggest house that could be booked?
@willcooling
Having watched wXw over the last few weeks on the network, they are in a similar rebuild phase with no shoutout big names, but I can see who they are positioning as there big hope (Norman Harras). There even doing stuff with Lucky Kid which
@BensonRichardE
will be happy about.
