Blimey..... are you talking the whole of the country? Thankfully no snow for us this far south but the rain is persistent. Fields are saturated with water running onto roads making them like rivers...

Not all SSWs lead to the ‘Beast’ Gill, but it does increase the chances somewhat... (last to chill the bosom of Cornwall, of course) 😉

Hope so John but I know it does not guarantee Cold to the UK. Is that easterly still coming next wk and if so will it bring just wintry showers or snow showers?

Easterly looks like from the weekend but still not desperately cold. Wintry mix rather than nailed on snow.

No - the blocked pattern in the lower atmosphere is not the result of an SSW. But it may actually have helped to weaken the Polar Vortex, increasing the chances of an SSW in the next couple of weeks.

Indeed tense stuff. It didn’t materialise to much last time and I shall air on the side of caution smthis time too. Be nice though to finally get the sledges out for the boys. Not had any meaningful snow since I bought them. 🤣

I'd be willing to bet we will just get sleet and yet more rain. Funnily enough my Facebook memories reminded me of sodden fields & flooding at this time in the last couple of years, but before that it had frost & ice. Like this.
