"I'm grateful for you." A friend starts his day by writing 5 things he's grateful for about his wife. Then shares 1 with her. It's been transformational. Annoyance has disappeared, problems feel smaller. Gratitude is undefeated. Tell your spouse you appreciate them.

"Our marriage is going to make it." I'm in my 25th year of marriage. We've had our share of dark times. It was in those times I most needed to hear that things would be okay. It gave me the strength to find my way to brighter days. Tell your spouse you're committed to them.

"You're so much fun to be with." When you were dating your spouse, I know you thought they were fun to be with. Then life set in and things got serious. Playfulness died. It's time to revive it. Tell your spouse you think they're fun (and see what happens).

"You're my type." Years ago I heard a speaker say, "Whatever your wife is, that's your type." It's easy to see our spouse's physical, emotional, and relational flaws. But it's much more powerful to appreciate who they are. Tell your spouse you're into them.

"I loved it when you..." Most of us walk around feeling unnoticed. In a world constantly competing for our attention, People feel overlooked and unappreciated. Don't let your spouse be one of them. Notice the good they do. And call it out. Tell your spouse you notice them.

"I admire you." I can't describe the power of genuine admiration. For the one receiving it, admiration reaches into your heart and fills it with joy. For the one expressing it, speaking admiration creates admiration. Tell your spouse what you admire about them.

"I was wrong." The week before my wedding, An old man pulled me aside. "I've been married for 60 years," he said. "If you want a happy life, always be willing to admit when you're wrong." Don't dig in and fight meaningless battles. Tell your spouse when you're wrong.

"I love coming home to you." Life pulls you away from your spouse. Work, kids, and community involvement are all good things... That can be hell on your marriage. When you come back together, make it matter. Tell your spouse you can't wait to be back with them.

"I support you." We thrive in environments where we feel supported. When you know someone has your back, it frees you to grow and take risks. If your marriage doesn't provide it, Your spouse will find somewhere (or someone) that does. Tell your spouse you're there for them.

"I trust you." We all have evidence from our lives to justify never trusting anyone ever again. So extending trust feels dangerous. Which means: - Trust is a gift you must choose to give your spouse, - Not a reward they must work to earn. Tell your spouse you trust them.

@wdmorrisjr Excellent, well organized, helpful 🧵Than you! We just celebrated 42 yrs! I’d add: ask questions. What do you need? How can I help? What do you think? How do you feel? What do you want? Is there more you need to say? ❤️🙏🏻❤️
