The art of spiritual warfare says St. Porphyrios; is less about waging war with demons. It’s about being indifferent to them. This can only be done through divine grace by approaching Christ. When temptations come, instead of turning to fight the demons, simply turn to Christ.

Good advice for anyone who subscribes to Christ, but this solution is not reserved for the religious.
'Grounding' is a more common term that pretty-much everyone can relate to.
The more you fight something the stronger it gets. Try making yourself forget something...can you?

To a degree that’s true, but where it veers off is the ‘solution’ without Christ is to endlessly be consumed by the world, only in Christ do we go beyond it. You can redirect yourself sure, but doing so to another created thing instead of the uncreated God is not the same.
