June is starting off as a great month. I'm making 660,000 yen before taxes from coding, which is an amount I never thought I'd see when I was teaching English. I'm not sharing this to brag. ๐๐พโโ๏ธ I just hope it motivates others who are still in the transition to not give up. ๐ฉ๐พโ๐ซโก๏ธ๐ฉ๐พโ๐ป
I know some more experienced engineers will look at this amount and scoff. However, please keep in mind that many of us have been stuck making less than 300,000 yen/month for years. Outside of tech, it's really hard to change from teaching to something that doesn't pay less.
This tweet has really blown up, and I'm sorry if I missed anyone! There have been a lot of questions about how to get started with coding from 0 in Japan. I tried answering in the comments, but I need to put together a more comprehensive resource. Please look forward to it!

That's amazing! Is it a work from home thing, or a location-based thing? Given my wife's work's nonsense, we're on the hunt for something for her, and she has fluent Japanese so she has options, but we do live boonies-side ^_^;;

Thatโs awesome! Celebrate your success and definitely be proud of it - youโve worked hard for it. itโs definitely great to see you succeeding at it - and I hope others in similar situations do to. Iโm staying with the English route but itโs where I am meant to be and happy!

Do you work overtime? The main reason I don't change jobs is the fear of working overtime. My current job has a basic salary, but also three bonuses and no overtime. I'd love to have a higher salary, but I'm happy about all the time I have. ๐โจ

I don't work any overtime and my hours are really flexible! I've heard that some of the bigger companies like Rakuten and Mercari require overtime, but my small one doesn't and gives us unlimited days off. We don't get bonuses (so far) but we do get frequent raises.

Thank you! ๐ฅฐ Of course I'd always like to make more ๐คฃ, but being able to not stress about money month to month has been a complete game changer.
