went down to the hotel lobby to retrieve my dinner delivery in a yoga outfit + snuggly cardigan.
some men with
#RSAC2024
lanyards exited the elevator as I re-entered; they turned back to look at me and one said (v loudly) to the other, “I was like, did you hire me a hooker?”
if you’re a man at RSAC and hear or see that kind of behavior from a peer, please shut that kind of shit down.
we should not let insecurity define our security industry culture. let’s support everyone feeling welcome (and why would we want to discourage hot ppl???)

I would have been like OMG that’s Kelly Shortridge and probably wondered so long about what to say I would have said nothing. In this case, however, that would have been an improvement.
@realstickdave
I am very socially awkward myself so coming up to me and being like, “i have no clue what to say but wanted to say hello” is entirely valid
to all people assuming they were “sales”… possibly, but I’ve received _way worse_ treatment historically from veritable security pros.
And I also speak at software engineering cons where sales people are never gross to me.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@swagitda_
Incredible how men can say something shitty and disrespectful like that yet wouldn’t at all tolerate someone saying that about their sister.
@swagitda_
They need to be called out and embarrassed. The worst is they took advantage of you being in a closed space with them. Someone find their parents, I’m sure they would be embarrassed at this behavior
