What this Mermaids/LGBA tribunal is highlighting is that there is no room for plurality of belief. At all. Mermaids worldview is absolutely totalitarian.

@suzanne_moore that seems to be the nature of all belief systems that evolve from critical theory - crt, wokism, queer theory - all of it. those of us who would resist are fine for there to be a plurality of voices in the room, including theirs. but this is not a courtesy they return.

@suzanne_moore Don't be absurd. LGBA is actively anti trans...*that* is totalitarian. You can see it in the testimonies...almost nothing about charitable work, almost everything attack, attack, attack trans. (Almost all of it either wrong or simply made made up.)

@suzanne_moore @francesweetman I'd be surprised if the CC don't take a close hard look at MM and Stonewall after this

@suzanne_moore From what I can gather, Mermaids don't believe in same sex attraction, since they don't believe that biological sex matters.

@suzanne_moore Yes. And MM's strategy is to try to show that it is LGBA that is the totalitarian and is driven by opposition to T, not by promoting LGB. Among *a lot of* other things: the Charity Commission is the body to regulate such conflicts. But MM want the CC to have no locus on LGBA??

@suzanne_moore @HJoyceGender latest podcast really highlighted this. It's juvenile narcissism at play, and it's being pandered to. Nothing without substance survives for long, the question is how much damage will have been done by the time this enters the collective consciousness.

@suzanne_moore Yes, absolutely. Everything which contradicts their world view is deemed automatically "transphobic"/fascist and therefore can be discarded/suppressed. And a *lot* of (previously rational) people have bought into it.

@suzanne_moore It would have to be totalitarian. Imagine entertaining the doubt, for even one moment, that they were sterilising kids for no reason.

@suzanne_moore Overall it seems to me to be about a lack of critical thinking (possibly missing from education and higher education in particular) and corporate profits. Making it more complex are charities losing income; fearing the 'gravy train' hitting the buffers from central government.

@suzanne_moore Mermaids are utter charlatans - filled with people with zero qualifications other than whatever warped state of empathy to wholeheartedly possess. Red flags everywhere.

@suzanne_moore If it weren’t for the harm they are causing it would make a very interesting study of groupthink and social contagion.

@suzanne_moore @FionneOrlander Mermaids' legal challenge looks kamikaze to the outside observer. I suspect the reason for it is they view LGBA as an existential threat. (Even if only subconsciously).

@suzanne_moore Sort off, there is NO room for a "plurality" of believe about whether trans people deserve equal rights. It's not totalitarian to say that, it's totalitarian to think there is a debate about other people's basic humanity. Tolerance is NEVER having that BE debateable.
