Durban could've been South Africa's Miami.
I visited Miami & it's a spruced up version of Durban: Art-deco buildings, clean beaches, clubs, bars, culture.
The eThekwini Municipality lacks the imagination & competence to transform Durban into a
#1
tourist hotspot. Sad, right?

Miami meets Tel Aviv- It’s oozing potential. It only gets there if people vote with the future in mind.
The youth can sway the vote, they just need to vote 🗳️

The complete lack of vision in the ANC is shocking to say the least. All they care about is lining up their pockets. They are failing on basic infrastructure maintenance.
@Thornbackforeva
Chinese investment at the Point Waterfront has turned that place around. Tons more to be done there but it went from a no-go zone to a trendy hotspot now.
@suntoshpillay
You forgot the drug money from the 80s cocaine boom that fuelled a lot of development of Miami. Cocaine revenue was heavily invested in real estate during the Escobar era
@Rogal_Dhorn
One factor. But it takes a lot more than drug money to *sustain* a city like Miami and *keep* it as an international destination of choice.
@suntoshpillay
Let’s be honest, Ballito and Umhlanga are thriving and abuzz. Is only Durban central which is being allowed to rot. One wonders why? What is the agenda?
@CyrilRamaphosa
do we not pay taxes? What’s actually going on here?
@suntoshpillay
The municipality and the construction mafia want their cut in every project, so nothing develops. The whole beachfront should have cafes along the promenade and even on the sand.

Lets say you find a developer, foreign to invest $2billion. They cant, RSA is at junk status. No foreign invesment allowed. Then its the process of getting plan approval 2 years min- electricity department has no budget to upgrade network. Ethekwini has not planned growth
