Why do you all always use the “exclude things you don’t want to see” argument when ao3 faces some criticism. Why are you so hellbent on letting vicious fics exist like nsfw of children, real children even. It’s not just that you can exclude that, it simply should not exist
Idk why some of you are so hellbent of letting this site be a safe space for pedophiles to just post and do whatever the fuck they want. Advocating that you can freely post rape of children like come on what
“Twitter other places also allows this” “stop using them then” use your fucking brain for once. Anyone who says that somewhat of a “censorship in ao3” is necessary for shit like child pornography to be removed very much wants the same thing for other sites. And you can use sites
And also criticize them. Also while reporting doesn’t always work and needs to be better, (we know Elon…) at least you can at least report shit like nsfw or kids…
@sorcerers_claw
I hate how people are so ride or die for that site as if it's the next library of alexandria and everytime someone dares criticize the site and point out its problems it's all boiled down to fiction or it automatically means you're pro-censorship
@sorcerers_claw
Cos you dont understand the concept of what “no moderation” means. The website is not responsible for what people post there, the writers & the readers are. There are no algorithms exactly to avoid anyone reading what they dont want to read
@sorcerers_claw
The issue I think is that ao3 is barely running as it is. They get a lot of donations of course, but it’s not run by a company. They can barley create accounts, much less check and take down content
@sorcerers_claw
That option should be used for when there are certain tropes you don't like, or a ship you don't personally want to read about not csem and rape content. People shouldn't have to sift thru that shit, it shouldn't be allowed at all.
@sorcerers_claw
Yeah like there’s clear cut grossness on A03 and it’s unacceptable. It’s not even the fact that it’s excluding tags it’s straight up against A03’s content guidelines.
People talking about tags are straight up self reporting.
@sorcerers_claw
Everyone agrees that stuff is bad, that’s not the issue. People want AO3 to have direct jurisdiction over which fics are/aren’t ok, which is a terrible thing to expand the power of. If you see illegal content, report it. This should be handled by law, not a corporation.
@sorcerers_claw
and ao3 is very bad when it comes to taking users down too. multiple people will report someone for writing bad things and they won’t do anything
@sorcerers_claw
“they can barely moderate. the site is barely working anyway🥺” so just take the entire site down. LMAOOO no fanfic is worth keeping up child pron
@sorcerers_claw
yeah like I'm not worried about accidentally having to read underage nsfw, I'm worried about the fact that someone created it in the first place
@sorcerers_claw
how do you expect them to stop this stuff from being posted?? bcs removing the tags wont stop anything. it'll just make it harder not to read it. ao3 just doesn't have the facilities to moderate every single thing that's posted.
