Stuff of nightmares. Last night I took the last sip of water and put the glass down. It shattered. This morning In the kitchen all the (new) water glasses were broken, except the one with water in it. A clue! I can hear a high pitched sound from the boiler. Resonant frequency

Maybe this is the explanation. Had to get hold of a temporary coffee maker and seem to h e bought the Darth Vader of coffee makers

@smithbarryc Happy to be disabused of this (and I don't have an alternative explanation), but that boiler noise would have had to be insanely loud to shatter glass: and most likely even if there was a fault-line common to all these glasses that handling would break them quicker than resonance

@mugloch True, and the imperceptible fault may be it. Though it’s only when they are empty. Maybe the frequency is too high for the human ear. Haven’t tried a dog in the house yet
