not only that but autism speaks has hosted them multiple times and the show has no autistic people working with them. its an ableist, disgusting show that deserves to be dunked on. its portrayal of autism is incredibly outdated and offensive.

like I think the memes r funny and each clip is insane but theres few tweets out there like “oh you guys are just hating on autistic people!!” when referring to this show as if this show wasnt created with absolutely no regard or care for autistic people.

they basically helped get the show more traction when it first came out as well. and when theyre pushing for a show you know its going to be horrible for autistic ppl

the quotes are weirdly thinking Im angry, which I understand tone over the internet is hard to grasp but I am not angry, I am simply informing people about the damage that autism speaks has inflicted and that shows that support such a disgusting company should be avoided

like yes I am well aware of the fact that Autism speaks might appear as a normal organization to some but that is why I am offering lots of context in this thread. This show, whether intentional or not, has given platform to an autistic hate group. that is why it is harmful.

again, this is not meant to shame anyone, honestly Im just tired of people supporting this organization that makes it very clear that it wants us gone! in the end Im not forcing anyone to stop watching a show or to “cancel” anything, Im just offering additional information!!

didnt expect this to blow up but if yall want some good shows and movie recommendations with canonically autistic and autistic implied characters I suggest: Community Heartbreak High Abbott elementary NOPE (also parks and rec, new girl, woo young woo, the good place. etc)

I also find that a lot of the times the best representation comes from Autistic actors/directors or from those coded characters because they arent trying so hard to fit a mold. many of these allistic casts and directors forget autism is a spectrum

plus you can usually tell when autistic characters are solely created with neurotypicals in mind rather than actual autistic people. anyways thanks to everyone thats been keeping it civil i appreciate it!

@sitcomabed I watched the first season, maybe two a few years ago and thought it was ok, not my fave, but ok. Once I realised I’m autistic I tried to watch again and couldn’t get through one episode, it made me so uncomfortable! Learning that they’ve partnered with AS is not surprising 🙄

@chlobituary yeah thats how many people feel! So many people are realizing after a couple years how bad it actually is, not only in terms of quality but also in its rep as well
