Yes of course. But it’s not our first language and they have to teach us. But they also adopt American names. Secondly, years ago I met a young Native American man who was not allowed to tell me his Native name. He drew me a picture instead. His name was Night Swan 🧡

Many of my co-workers were Vietnamese and while I think I pronounced their names correctly the language is so tonal that I'm sure it didn't sound right to them. They always laughed at me when trying to teach me Vietnamese. I'm from New York and still pronounce water as wahtah.
@seanhelaosouse
I do. I also do not use the descriptive word "Oriental" as this is offensive in many instances. Unless I'm told specifically to use it, I don't.
@JosefLCoffey1
It is offensive. Orientals are rugs, not people. I had to correct a boy of another 10 when asked me if i was oriental and French. That is exactly what i told him
@seanhelaosouse
Yes. I also discovered that many of my Asian co-workers use English "call names" to accomodate those who just can't, or won't make the effort.
