Me: My kid's autistic and doesn't cope with extreme temps, so I really need my air con fixed. Mechanic: I get that, I'm slightly autistic myself. Me: No such thing as slightly autistic. Mechanic: Oh I'm diagnosed. I downplay it because otherwise people think I can't do my job.

@wolfnsunflowers A good reminder of a reason people say “we’re all a little bit autistic” or “I’m slightly autistic myself” which isn’t just dismissal of autistic experience. Autistic people are forced to minimise themselves because of stigma.

@roseg @wolfnsunflowers @ephant Then there's, like, spectrum-adjacent folk like myself with my ADHD & other ND things. Like I probably don't quite meet the criteria but there's a definite overlap in relatable experiences between my bro (who's on the spectrum) & I, esp when we get going on a mutual sp. intetest.
