Devin is alright for quick demos that don’t need to be maintained or scaled but all serious projects require lot lot more. Writing code is a trivial part of software engineering. The meat of the job is working w all the constraints that comes around building things w technology w…

Criticizing this tool in particular is incredibly shortsighted. Give a model 2 or 3 years down the line more “eyes” and “ears” into an organization (think meeting summary AI tools and internal docs), and they’ll be able to navigate the ambiguities and build software the biz needs

Agree on some points. I would imagine AI SWEs or agents helping with architecture, reasoning, path flows etc. leveraging more modalities than just chat.
True Engineers would love AI SWEs.
As software 'coding' is always a tedious task to be done in any engineering project.
Core need for Engineers will never go away.
Those Builders will now have a million assistants working for them at lightening speeds ... in parallel.
Imagine…

Agreed. AI has been used as a narrative cover to allow big tech companies to lay off huge numbers of software devs at the same time. The real reason for the layoffs is because big tech companies didn't have good hiring processes in place and they over-hired and created a bubble.

I agree with this. However, we should give credit to what was created. I am observing a trend of people saying, hey, this is not going to work. Specifically in the case of Devin, at least. Yes. It is not a complete SDLC replacement. It will augment the existing good coders. Make…

I don’t disagree with what I understand as your point, but at the same time, a tool that allows people with zero (or nearly zero) coding experience to make plugins and websites and other simple things is still a significant step toward freeing a lot of good ideas that would…

Not an original take.
Isn’t this an obvious thought? Most people are assuming it only keeps getting better which is the cause for excitement.
