Berger wrote of soviet art that, despite many subpar works, at its crux was an attempt to create “a new tradition [that] can only be built on the general awareness that life should be an inspiration to life - not a consolation” and this painting really embodies that for me

it’s like Lenin just got off his Harley Davidson, his footsteps echoing as he slowly walks through the empty halls. He finally sees a worker, lights him a cigar, “we done here?”

Ah yeah. The tragedy day. The time when 3rd armed coup of Bolsheviks wasn't stoped by Temporal Government as they had problems and Bolsheviks took over. The amount of blood that was spilled and culture destroyed later is horrifying

I've been there and, even though I had seen it on TV, the over the top grandeur and pointless opulence blew my mind away and made me think what those who stormed the Winter Palace must have felt upon seeing it for the very first time. I can imagine the bloodthirst.
