A terrible indictment of the way the NHS is turning into a meat grinder for your doctors. As a 56 yr consultant, I have (to be quite clear) never known the system to be under such strain. A team with good morale is the only thing that keeps me going now. 3 years and counting...

It's awful but our new F1s will be looked after and supported. We work on a 70 bedded AAU and we all look out for each other. To see a thread like Emily's makes me so sad. Our team needs every member to feel valued in order to thrive. It's my privilege to help train our new Drs.

Couldn't agree more. Feeling part of an authentic and happy team is key. But it is so difficult when we have staffing gaps, high sickness levels, and relentless pressure.

I found this thread rather difficult to believe. She didn't know what the pay of a F1 was after a five year degree training for the job?! And complaining re. secretarial work of a F1. So? What did she expect straight out of med school? House? ER? Lack of realism.

Every word this doctor wrote is relatable and I believe has been experienced, in part at least, by most doctors. Has she done the right thing in leaving and yet adding to part of the problem (staff shortages) or should those like her stick around to enforce changes from within?
