I’ve heard many say, “This isn’t who we are as Americans.” This is, in fact, exactly who we are. We have been separating children from their families for generations, this country was founded on it. To ignore that, erases history and erases entire populations of people.

This is who we are, but its not who we should be. Lincoln spoke in his Gettysburg Address of the "new birth of freedom"-realizing the promise in the Declaration slaveholder Jefferson couldn't imagine was there. So also here: Its not who we have been; its who we are to become.

Valid point, but it's more like this is not who we are as American people who have disassociated from the heinous policies of our gov't. Now that we've recognized this, let's do better.

Sweetie you’re so ignorant of history it hurts me to read your tweet. There have been unjust things that have happened in our past (Civil War fought to free slaves, the trail of tears)
but do we NOW CONTINUE these current atrocities? No we don’t.
@peggyflanagan
You couldn’t be more correct! I continuous applaud your constant reminder - we must all remember and we must stop repeating this inhuman treatment of people!
