Rin's form of affection in general is seemingly tough love - similarly to what Sae would show to him. He's hard on Isagi on purpose, knowing he has good potential. He smacks him around and teases him knowing he could be more.

its rin rant time since nobody understands his character. Rin, prior to the bllk11 win, DID show a slight care for Isagi. Rin's affection is very withdrawn, often a response to previous relationships (In this case, Sae leaving him) - this is literally a psych term -

called "Core beliefs." Rin clearly believes, due to this event, that he is unworthy of love or that everyone's affection towards him is fake in some way. Thus, instead of being caring like he previously was, he pushes everyone away self destructively. This is a common resposne.

Thus, Rin showing slight affection towards others, namely Isagi, is a HUGE step. Rin many times was shown slowly breaking out of his little shell due to Isagi. He was getting better bit by bit, healing slowly due to the persistence Isagi had to show kindness to him.

After losing Sae's attention on him to Isagi, the one thing he was fighting for, Rin's world is flipped back upside down. He loses sight of his goal very easily at this and quickly latches onto the closest thing he can blame this loss on. (bpd rin is real to me (IS SHOT))

Rin's affection may be gone, sure, but Rin is still very clearly obsessed with Isagi, just in a different light now. Sae rejecting him sent him back to square one, and healing takes time. Rin still desperately clings onto Isagi and is obsessed with being better than him.

Healing takes time, and it isnt linear. I wouldnt be surprised if once more, Rin is forced to learn and move past his obsession with Sae and given people that actually care for him, like Isagi & Hiori who he both has been affectionate with previously.
