Of course, had a lot of help from various sources.
Here's a 16-part thread about that journey...

Wonderful presentation by

The Power of the Ordinary
When I started tracking the IT sector 10+ years ago, the only meaningful historical sector narrative I could get was from the company filings, other senior analysts & people who had worked in IT. My IT grad helped in having some tech context but the business context felt lacking.
This was a coming of age presentation for me 😆😅
From a gamer to studying gaming businesses.
I don't get much time to play video games these days but
@PPFAS
FOF gave the perfect opportunity to learn about how The Gaming Industry works.

Several sources helped me to appreciate how complex this topic actually is.
Spans across micro / macro economics, engineering, design, anthropology, history, politics, sociology & much more
We think we know more than we actually do because of the collective knowledge we've come to rely upon. 😊
What an exceptional book! Worth several re-reads.
The Knowledge Illusion: Why We Never Think Alone by Steven Sloman with Philip Fernbach
Accidentally played this video but found it simple & profound.
Not sure what it’s called but doing a lot of these daily activities always made me “feel” happier, than when I didn’t do them.
Maybe it doesn’t need a label to incl in our daily routine.
Cal Newport's writing has helped me pick up good learning habits.
This episode speaks of training the mind for thinking, especially if you struggle with paying attention to long form content.
(ignore the ridiculous title, podcast title is "How to Think")
Perhaps one of the best books I read this year.
The idea of range is nuanced, not an excuse to get distracted.
The idea that breadth of experience with purposeful depth can lead to learning across multiple domains is pretty phenomenal.
An ode to wandering 😁
@DavidEpstein
Anytime you feel like driving near a tall, heavy vehicle, imagine that driver’s blind spot. It’s far bigger than we imagine from our point of view.
Maintain distance.
With a mountain of learning material on how others invest, is it truly worthwhile to keep learning from others while continuously looking inwards at how we are developing ourselves?

Why bother reading about AI when the field itself is changing so fast & we can easily ask Chatgpt/Bard to explain AI to us?
When
@FLAMEUniversity
gave an opportunity to deep dive into this topic I referred to these books to learn about AI, the old school way.
Short thread 1/10
One of the most broadly interesting podcast conversations that I've had, with
@eugenewei
- Dr. Dre / Jimmy Iovine
- Invisible asymptotes
- Why new social networks need
"proof of work"
- media and tech in the future
Trust me, just listen!
Spent a chunk of 2019 re-reading some books & had a (obvious) realisation that when I read them the first time, I could 'only' understand what I was capable of understanding at that time.
So much understanding might be dependent on just having enough experience to process it.

Good videos and nuanced discussions.

Amazing documentaries / interviews on the whole non-linearity of
Process -> Efforts -> Luck -> Outcome path that people take, fuelled by serendipity & survivorship bias.
Experienced peak F.U.D. - Fear Uncertainty Doubt - while working on this presentation on the Cybersecurity / Infosec Industry
@PPFAS
It's a big market, getting bigger as cyber threats become more innovative, more powerful & more expensive to ignore.
You are what you do often.
Margin of Safety has been the most important concept I've learned from Investing.
It's so widely applicable in life that I could naturally adopt it while driving.
Here's how investing taught me to enjoy driving.

I'm using mine to learn the Game of Bridge, with my friends.

Why public transport rocks:
In the past 45 days
I commuted 4,860 kms to & from work.
If I travelled this distance by car @ avg 20 km/hr in peak traffic I'd have spent 10 days commuting
But I took the local train
@Central_Railway
which meant 4 days of commuting at avg 50 km/hr
What a show! Truly outstanding.
"The Game within The Game..."
The Last Dance -
This show has been my exercise companion for a month, re-ran episodes, youtube clips from old games. Still don't understand basketball much, but the 'Inner Game'!!! 🙏🏾
Probably the best playlist if anyone wants to watch a visual guide to the First Industrial Revolution. Detailed, yet very easy to understand.
We take so much of it for granted.

Michael Schur has a phenomenal track record of work but his best work so far has been to help us answer the question -
“What’s the point of being a good person?”
Wonderful & surprisingly easy to understand lecture about the (mis) understanding of exponential growth in most things in life.
It has the ability to be funny and grim at the same time 😊
"History of India can be narrated thru the history of Indian Banking"

More Sleep + Deep Work feels like rocket fuel in the brain.
It's also ironic that the first time I heard of Cal Newport & 'Deep Work' was thru social media 😊
Very nice documentary about the history of finance theory & how a bunch of people from Chicago changed the trajectory of investing.

Investing is not just for the professionals. I think the lack of scale in investing effort in many areas is a limitation & an opportunity for every investor.
My views on building scale in investing especially as an individual investor.

After video streaming, it was time to study the Music Streaming Business. In this video I've tried to explain my view on the evolution of Music Streaming, the players involved & who's winning at the moment.

If one really learns the amount of minerals that need to be unearthed from the ground to make electronics we would try and use them for as long as possible.
A good history about one of the greatest consumer electronic products out there.
Until I read the Arun Mohan Sukumar's Midnight's Machines, a lot of the business decisions in the Indian tech space in 1960's-70's were a bit hard to relate to. Do check it out for a very good historical context on India's science & tech adoption.
Some lessons are best learnt from fiction.
